Robot2600 #1 Posted January 11, 2011 Who else loves this game? I'm glad to see the arcade version make it to the Wii, but it's a shame that they took down the NES version. Anyone playing GnG lately? --- 8bitcity.blogspot.com
SoulBlazer #2 Posted January 11, 2011 I always had a original love/hate affair with this game -- most of my time was spent playing the NES port, although I have played a couple other ones. I'd play it for a while, get totally pissed off at the insane difficulty level, swear I'd never touch it again, and then go back to trying it again about a month later. I never did reach the first ending, either....

I never did reach the first ending, either.... Now's the time to fire up MAME! I determined to beat this damn game, even if it's just the first loop. To be honest, 6 stages isn't that bad, plus a checkpoint, PLUS infinite quarters. Still, I'm unsure if I want to devote time to GnG, Rygar (Arcade, I've demolished the NES game 1,000 times) or Rastan, the "other" early arcade platformer that people seem to still enjoy. One thing I noticed with GnG is you really have to fire slower than you're able. Mashing the button actually shoots slower, and until I figured this out I died about twice as often. Crazy Climber #4 Posted January 13, 2011 One of my favorites, yes, I have beat it numerous times. Hard but possible
Austin #5 Posted January 13, 2011 Tough game for sure, but it's definitely doable when you know the tricks. I honestly think the NES version is more difficult because of some of its differences (and its glaring flaws!).
Robot2600 #6 Posted January 13, 2011 I'm stuck on 3-2 right now. I can get to the Dragon every now and then, but always end up getting hit. My friend played the game for the first time today, and he kept saying, "this game is fucking horrible!" over and over (his words exactly...) He kept playing though, but I don't think he enjoys the game, or hard games like that. Personally, I decided that the game wasn't hard enough for some reason and downloaded Meat Boy off newgrounds (its free and awesome, you should get it, you can download a standalone flash version) and then decided that wasn't hard enough either and played IWBTG. I think I'm about to go back to GnG, hopefully I'll be able to post back tonight with some success.
goldenegg #7 Posted January 14, 2011 As a kid, I used to be able to beat this game. Now, I can't get through the first loop. When I play now, I just throw in the Genesis version and use the invincibility cheat
DE2600 #8 Posted January 15, 2011 Great game, I must have pumped over a thousand quarters into that game. One of the few games that I enjoyed, but was unable to finish. I never even finished the first circuit. One of these days I will buy a dedicated machine and finish it, I hope.
