Best way to clean your carts... suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Ok... Yurkie is pimping out a Colecovision for me in the next little bit and I have a stack of fresh carts coming from Pixelboy and Retroillucid but what about my old carts. I want to give them a nice cleaning to help my Coleco stay nice and fresh!

What's the best way to clean the carts? Q-Tip and alcohol? I want to get the contacts nice. The longer I can keep my games and system in tip top shape, the better.

Ok.. input time. Suggestions? Tips and tricks? Anything a person shouldn't do?

DeoxIT is best, but if you want to use alcohol I recommend using only 99% Isopropyl alcohol, not the 50% or 70% stuff. Put it on a Q-tip and move in and out rubbing the contacts. Rubbing side to side you might damage the contact traces.

Thanks Yurkie... I'll give them the alcohol treatment... don't have DeoxIT and want to avoid buying any... I should have the Isopropyl stuff here somewhere.

You most likely have the watery 50% or 70% stuff. I would recommend going to the pharmacy and getting a bottle of 99%. It costs about a $1.50 here in the US.
