Mt best Atari 2600 Find

Recommended Posts

Ok..

Listen to this.

I met a guy who had 15 red label Atari games.

I just traded 4 pizzas for them! I own a pizza shop and he was hungry (or just stupid.)

I also paid $2.00 each for 9 silver label Atari games.

He had 24 games I did not have and I am very happy today!

I wouldn't necessarily call the guy stupid. The pizzas were worth what... $15 each? So that's $60 value for 15 games that are probably worth $4 each or less? (I'm assuming they were loose and none were BMX Airmaster). Sounds about like a fair deal to me. I'd trade you a bunch of doubles for pizza too.

But from the OP's perspective, it's a great deal because he owns the pizzeria, and that pizza that retails for $10-$15 probably only costs a buck each for flour, sauce, toppings, etc.. Oh, and of course the labor to make it.

I totally understand that but thought it was so obvious that it wasn't worth mentioning.

But as far as value-for-value trade, it's probably not a bad trade. And certainly not worth calling the other guy "stupid" over (unless one was a BMX Airmaster, but then he was just uninformed).

Yeah, I get your point, stupid is a harsh word to call someone, when from the customer's perspective it was a pretty even trade.

OK... the choices were hungry or stupid. I guess he was just hungry. Each pizza cost me 1.50 to make... And he came to meet me at my store. The greatest fact was that he had 24 games that I did not have. Usually people have the usual... combat, asteroid and Pitfall. No... not this time. This Guy had Defender 2, secret quest, dark carverns and several other good rare games. It was the strangest collection. Almost like he got his Atari in 1986 and started playing games then. Weird. But lucky for me.

It doesn't matter what the pizzas cost you to make to make it a fair deal for both parties. Just like if I find a NIB Atari BMX Airmaster at the flea market for $1.50 and trade it for something worth $xxx. Just because I only paid $1.50 for it, does that mean I should only get $1.50 in trade for it? Of course not. I should get whatever I can get in trade for it, most likely something worth whatever $xxx it's worth on the open market. It sounds like a very fair trade for both parties. I would honestly make the exact same trade with you, no problem. None of the ones you named are rare or worth jack squat. As a matter of fact, I think the other guy got a great deal for ~$60 worth of food. Just sayin'.

If you break down the actual cost of making the pizzas, though, which is probably like $5, he made out nicely.

No kidding. My contention was with calling the guy with the carts stupid or anything like that, or implying that the cart guy somehow got a bad deal... he didn't. All that matters with a trade is fair trade value, not what either of the parties actually paid for the items they are trading away. I'm not sure how much more clear I can make this.

I guess something like this is a big deal to a new collector, and I'm certainly not trying to minimize the "score" factor of getting these. Just to those of us that have been around a long time, this isn't a big deal at all.

Still, congrats on getting a nice score of games for a good price for you. My only problem was with implying that somehow the other guy got shafted. He didn't.

(he meaning me or the hungry guy)???

The actual cost to make the pizzas were $1.50 each. I spent $6.00 in food cost.

I stretched the dough, I put on sauce and I put on cheese. I baked them for 6 minutes. I used 2 boxes.

The items were exchanged.

Bam done!

Plus, the post is not who got the better deal. The post is that I got 15 Red label Atari carts that I didn't have the day before. It was my best find ever!

Did he feel good about it? Yes. Did I feel good about it? Yes.

Trading food for games is GREAT!

There you go. You nailed it. +1 for you for that. That's all I was trying to say. That's what a trade is all about, period.

But today he will be hungry again and I am still happy.

10 CALL CLEAR

20 PRINT: "Man cannot live by Atari alone."

30 CALL SOUND (100,FART,80)

40 GOTO 20

OK, though you realize that has nothing to do with anything, right?

I want to see some pics of this pizza, with Vocelli holding 'em up for the camera! We'll then take a poll to see who got the better deal. Fair enough?

BTW: Where's Mt. Best? Is that where people used to be sacrificed in the name of Bira Bira? What a waste. All this time, Pizza could have been sacrificed instead of virgins or E.T. carts. Or is it where Bradley Koda sits atop his awesome Atari inventory?

LOL... yeah... assuming the 4 pizzas are good, and I'm assuming they are, more happiness would be created for me with a pizza than with Dark Caverns & Secret Quest, I'll tell ya that!

For some odd reason reading this thread has made me hungry Mmmm...Pizza

Yeah, me too. We're going to go to our favorite pizzeria for dinner shortly. A large pizza with pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. Washed down with a large pitcher of ice cold beer. And they even have a Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga dual arcade machine to play while waiting for our delicious pie. Pizza, beer, and video games. Is there any better combination?!?!?

My question is, on the front window of the store, does he have a picture of an Atari cart next to 'we accept' Visa, Matercard, etc..?

LOL! I can see that little logo now....

"We Accept:

[Visa]

[MasterCard]

[Discover]

[AmEx]

[Atari Fuji Logo]"

That would be awesome!
