chrisbid #51 Posted January 28, 2011 gameboy tetris - the quintessential handheld game
Austin #52 Posted January 30, 2011 I totally forgot about V-Tetris on the Virtual Boy. Great visuals, background depth, a nice soundtrack, cool extra modes and very smooth gameplay. Asides from the New Tetris on the 64, that has to be my favorite (I put this slightly above Tetris DS as I prefer the more "in your face" feel of the VB game).
lastkill3r #53 Posted January 30, 2011 "Gameboy rocks!" Also, the brick game is quite fun.
innuendo #54 Posted February 1, 2011 I like two NES' tetris. Especially this one: http://ui24.gamespot.com/1015/tetris2b_2.png Music, music, and once again music! And, of course, tetris on Atari, especially Getris.

WatchVenusSpa #56 Posted February 2, 2011 Does Dr. Mario count? I always considered that one to be the best Tetris knockoff.
A2600 #57 Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Plain NES Tetris release. But Tetris 2 is allways good with a friend Edited February 3, 2011 by A2600
Pixelboy #58 Posted February 3, 2011 I've always had a special place in my heart for the original Game Boy pack-in game.
Algus #59 Posted February 3, 2011 I don't like how they changed scoring and added that "hold a piece" thing in newer versions of Tetris. I don't know when they added that but any version before they did is ok in my book. Probably logged the most hours onto Gameboy Tetris though.
A_Locomotive #60 Posted February 4, 2011 Tetris DX for Game Boy Color is by far my favorite version. It was the last Tetris I bought and I still play it quite frequently at night. Its just fantastic getting into the zone and knocking out a 1,000,000 - 5,000,000 score while watching TV, almost a meditative feeling when I break a million. I'm sure there are better versions but I love this one personally.

TheGameCollector #62 Posted February 10, 2011 Does Dr. Mario count? I always considered that one to be the best Tetris knockoff. Well you could always say Tetris & Dr. Mario for SNES as it includes both games and 2 players can play the separate games simultaneously which was awesome. I am very surprised nobody mentioned it. I would say I played Nintendo's version of NES Tetris the most though. I also really like the oddity of the CD-i Tetris making that one one of my top favorites. When it's one of the only games you play for a particular system, it becomes an automatic part of your favorites list.
Atari_afternoon #63 Posted February 12, 2011 Original GB one. Close second, Dr. Mario. Does this make me exotic?
jaybird3rd #64 Posted May 31, 2012 Just dusting this off to add to my earlier list of favorite Tetris variants. I'm still as enthusiastic as ever about The Next Tetris, but I've recently been spending more time with the Tetris the Grand Master series. This family of Tetris games from the Japanese arcade does not seem to be as widely known, but it represents a very interesting evolution of the more "traditional" versions of Tetris that most of us are familiar with. Here is an in-depth essay which discusses the play mechanics, and the differences from classic Tetris, and here is an insane superplay video which really makes me wish I had more time to practice: http://youtu.be/jwC544Z37qo

sqoon #66 Posted May 31, 2012 Has anyone besides me ever wondered if the Russian guy who designed Tetris even sees any proceeds off all these versions these days, or if maybe he's living in poverty and squalor as the Russian government takes his royalties? +atari2600land #68 Posted May 31, 2012 Gameboy, official NES version. I hate the Tengen version because it stops you every thirty lines to add the score total. How annoying is that? I've always wondered why people love it more..
godslabrat #69 Posted May 31, 2012 Gameboy, official NES version. I hate the Tengen version because it stops you every thirty lines to add the score total. How annoying is that? I've always wondered why people love it more.. It's a combination of "Cool story, Bro" with general dislike for Nintendo, mixed with a desire to have a better version of something that's really, really common. I'm not a big fan of the Tengen version myself. I can't imagine anything beating the first Gameboy release.
Turbogfx #70 Posted June 4, 2012 My favorite one is the old skool Gameboy Classic version. It's such a big part of my youth, I just can't think of any other version that would be more dear to me :-)
