+Midnight Synergy #3 Posted January 21, 2011 2D platformers... Missile Command....? I'm confused! Do you mean platformers or shooters?
Arkhan #4 Posted January 21, 2011 Oddworld Abes Odyssey and Abes Exodus are great... Klonoa and Tomba are the best. Get those and you don't need anything else.
+atari2600land #5 Posted January 21, 2011 2D platformers... Missile Command....? I'm confused! Do you mean platformers or shooters? Platformers. I don't have any of those. When I got the PS1 I was at a loss on what to buy, nothing looked very interesting so I just got the two names I recognized. Then I forgot all about it for the longest time and now I am back into it. Austin #6 Posted January 21, 2011 Wild 9. Downright awesome.. and cheap. If you feel like importing, I believe Earthworm Jim 2 came out in Japan. Hermie Hopperhead is another Japanese one, but it goes cheap. The visuals are all sprite-based 2D, too (not the polygonal 2.5D like Wild 9). C: The Contra Adventure has a couple of 2D stages mixed between the free-roaming 3D stages. Silhouette Mirage. Brilliant game! Gunner's Heaven. More of a Gunstar Heroes/Contra-like game, but still, those involve 2D platforming. Likewise, Metal Slug X is available in the US. And the original Metal Slug is available in Japan. Capcom Generations 2 (Japan again) has Ghosts 'n Goblins, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts on it. You can import the entire original Mega Man series as well. Oh, Mega Man X4, X5, and X6, as well as Mega Man 8 were all released in the US. There was a great port of Rayman (See the Jaguar forum for some comparisons between that version and the PlayStation version). Gex also had a good port to the PlayStation (Originally a 3DO game). Pandemonium and Pandemonium 2. The first was an early 2.5D effort. It's simplistic and fun. Heart of Darkness is somewhat platformish, but it's more along the lines of Out of This World (and for good reason.. ).. Likewise with the Abe series mentioned earlier. (hope that helps)

Sonic R #8 Posted January 21, 2011 Skullmonkeys awesome (and slightly obscure) platformer for the PlayStation… one of my favorites in the genre!
MagitekAngel #9 Posted January 21, 2011 The Adventures of Lomax is perhaps my very favourite.
cimerians #10 Posted January 21, 2011 Klonoa and Tomba are the first two games that come to mind because for me they are the best. All the others mentioned here are good too like Lode Runner, Oddworld etc.

Video #14 Posted January 22, 2011 Skullmonkeys awesome (and slightly obscure) platformer for the PlayStation… one of my favorites in the genre! I'll second this one, it's my favorite platformer on here, and it's a good challenge (where many try to be easy, this one just says FU ) I believe the Metal Slug games were on PSX too, and I know some Rayman games were (it was on damn near everything)
