chrisbid #26 Posted January 25, 2011 The PS1 and Dreamcast are obvious choices being disc-based in nature. But when it comes to programmable sound chips, the N64 and 32X have the highest-quality sounds and instruments, but the Genesis and SNES have some of the finest and most memorable musical scores available for the time. In fact you could call it crazy but to me it seems like the older chiptunes are much more easily recognizable than the more realistic stuff. Example: Think of your favorite song from, say, Mega Man X. Hum it. Easy huh? Now take your favorite song from Mega Man X5. Not so easy. I can remember every tune in MMX1-3, but I can't honestly tell you I remember a single track from a Mega Man X game that came after 3. exactly, lack of memorable tunes are one of the reasons modern gaming doesnt have the magic of the old stuff. Koopa64 #29 Posted January 25, 2011 It sounds like a bad ass piece of equipment that doesn't get the good recognition it deserves.

Arkhan #31 Posted January 25, 2011 YOU'RE ALL DUMB. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12n_XWgm63I \o/ Also, the Genesis FM results in better bass because its FM synthesis, as opposed to sampling. You could sample an FM bass, I guess. but it won't mesh with the rest of the sampled as opposed to synthed instruments. Just like if you try putting sampled strings and stuff with the Genesis, it's going to sound like a bad 80s parody.
