Direct 3D

Recommended Posts

Well, after Atari 2600 Stella it works fine, but Intellivision and MAME, don't work.

It says cannot connect to Direct 3D. No driver loaded. etc

Here's some screenshots.

I figure being told what I should do, exactly will save time. Also the last time I tried to download directx or whatever, it finished and said it was put in, but nothing improved or changed. :ponder:

DirectX is bundled with Windows and always installed. If you've done a Windows Update or otherwise downloaded/installed a newer version, you might need to reboot the computer before it works properly.

Make sure your Desktop is in 32 bit per pixel mode (probably won't matter but worth a try).

MAME has the option to use Direct3D or not. For older games they should work either way, Direct3D is mainly used by MAME to do effects like pixel triads etc to give the look/feel of an old CRT monitor.

Also a good idea to check the release notes etc. with whatever version of MAME you're running. AFAIK practically any version of MAME for Windows should work with XP, but it mightn't be the case for Vista or Win 7.

i dunno if mame stores stuff in the windows registry if it does try removing those entries then if you have the original zipped mame, firstly just delete the mame files in the mame directory (not the roms and all folders within mame ofcourse) just the mame executable and the mame ini/cfg file and delete the mame ini/cfg file in the relevent mame directories, then just unzip the original mame zip file into that directory (most modern unzip progs' support drag and drop) and execute the fresh mame executable

if that doesn't work, try selecting GDI as the graphics interface instead of direct x/direct 3d

Here's 3 screenshots for a failed commodore 64 emulator, tried to run it but errors...

I guess the direct x is in the system, but it's not agreeing, and the emulator

was blinking and slowing, like it fast hit a pause button over and over... :ponder:

i looked up direct x, or direct 3d... and i couldn't find the update i did.

JacobZu7zu7, it appears that you have not installed the drivers to your graphic card. Run the dxdiag.exe utility and run the tests, maybe it will detect the problem.
