Austin #101 Posted February 13, 2011 I'll have to check. I don't remember if it states it or not. The box in the picture a few posts above says "Plays games and movies!".
caver #102 Posted February 13, 2011 I'll have to check. I don't remember if it states it or not. The box in the picture a few posts above says "Plays games and movies!". What I remember is that it did say that on the box "Plays games and movies!" and I looked all over the box to see what kind of movies they were talking about, and found some kind of line about the company making the movie disks at a later date. I took that to mean it did NOT play DVD's and passed on it... I guess it's all kinda moot now since I missed my chance... If you have the box someplace handy though, I'd like to know if it's just that I missed the spot that say's it plays dvd movies.... Chris
Austin #103 Posted February 13, 2011 I've emptied out my closet due to selling other things so I should be able to reach it without a problem sometime this weekend, haha..

Chris Just pulled it out of the closet and took a look at the back of the box. It only says "Plays movies and games". Nothing about making movie disks.. So I guess in 2005 when this thing was released, it would have been safe to assume it plays DVDs. It would have been helpful if they slapped a DVD logo on it or something though. toptenmaterial #107 Posted February 13, 2011 Hey Austin any chance of posting it on your FS thread?
Austin #108 Posted February 13, 2011 Hey Austin any chance of posting it on your FS thread? Nah.. I thought about it, but it really wouldn't be worth the trouble, especially since people can still get them new for $20 or $30 on eBay. There's not enough money to be made to make it worth going through the packing/shipment process. May as well just hold onto it.

toptenmaterial #110 Posted February 13, 2011 Thanks. But it would have been strictly an impulse buy!

toptenmaterial #113 Posted March 10, 2011 Could we say that most ad-ons were failures?
Austin #114 Posted March 10, 2011 Could we say that most ad-ons were failures? Maybe.. Like it was stated earlier in the thread (old thread, at least I *think* it was stated prior), it depends on one's definition of "failure". The Sega CD, for instance, is considered a failure, yet it sold several million systems worldwide. Just a small fraction when compared to the Genesis itself, but a nice chunk which probably still equated to a solid sum of profit (clearly enough for them to support it for three or four years). toptenmaterial #115 Posted March 11, 2011 My favorite "add-on" is the Game Boy Player
+bennybingo #116 Posted March 11, 2011 I'm not sure if someone mentioned this (I didn't see them mentioned), but I would add the following failed systems to the list: Adventure Vision (not quite a system, but pretended to be) Haylecon (wish I had one tho ) Action Max (just the thought makes my stomach hurt) In my humble opinion, the Haylecon was the only one out of these three systems that had potential. That said, when it was originally released, it was priced too high for the target market. Alas, this bird never took flight, leaving the market with only 2 games in its' library. Vic George 2K3 #117 Posted March 11, 2011 The GameWave is such a "powerful game system" that it even defies gravity!!!
retrozoneorg #118 Posted March 11, 2011 (edited) I know the console with the biggest failure rate! The dreadful xbox360! As for commercial failures my favourites are the Amstrad GX4000 and the Fairchild channel f. Was the sega nomad a failed system? Not many around. Pong #120 Posted March 11, 2011 I'm amazed nobody even mention the Playstation X. That was a huge fail, but it was the first console to use 160GB storage. It doesn't say that on Wikipedia, but that's what I heard. I'm not sure of the validity and I can't edit it because my school's IP is blocked.
Rex Dart #121 Posted March 11, 2011 Woop woop just bought a 3DO, and I got a stack of CD-Rs all ready to fulfill their destinies. I loved failed systems, there is a certain magic underdog spirit about them and I own more than a few. Hell yeah, me too. Usually they all have at least a few shining gems that make them worth owning. Neo Geo Pocket Color's fighting games & Sonic, 7800's Robotron, STUN Runner on the Lynx... I'm amazed nobody even mention the Playstation X. Well, it was really just an expanded PS2, which sold pret-ty well altogether.
Rikkarr #122 Posted March 12, 2011 The XaviXPort is an interesting system. I assume it failed, although it might be in production? I'm not sure... Here is the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XaviXPort
Pong #123 Posted March 12, 2011 The XaviXPort is an interesting system. I assume it failed, although it might be in production? I'm not sure... Here is the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XaviXPort Half the resources on that page are dead links, and after some Googling (in Russian, lol) I found out... absolutely nothing. Even all "where to buy" links on the website are dead, 404s, or lead to nowhere.
Austin #124 Posted March 12, 2011 You used to be able to buy the Xavix from Macy's website. I was in a Tuesday Morning a couple of weeks ago as well and they had the Bowling game for it. I believe most (if not all) games came with their own "controllers" (a large bowling ball, in this case).
