MaxSpeed #1 Posted December 12, 2002 Pitfall II is quite challenging ! Question: When you are falling through the layers, how do you easily get you Harry to either side. Sometimes he seems to only move after a many pulls to the left or right and by that time I have dropped down to far. Any Pitfall II tips are welcome ! MegaManFan #2 Posted December 12, 2002 I've found that whatever direction you are facing when you fall, it's always easier to pull to the opposite direction for some reason. I can't prove that's a fact or the right way to play, or even that it's true - just general experience as to what works best. I quickly turn around and strive to hit a platform, and once held I find Harry tends to keep moving in that direction 'til he hits solid ground. Uncontrolled falls not quickly recovered are the worst, because you could accidentally hit a vulture, a bat, or if you're falling through the ladder hole, even a frog. I avoid uncontrolled falls at all costs when playing for that reason, and not just because you lose points when you touch down.
cimerians #3 Posted December 12, 2002 Hard indeed, and Megaman is right on. I was an unfortunate fellow who owned the Colecovision version of the game back in the day. Having to use a stubby Coleco controller proved to be a frustrating experience. The game gets even harder later on when you get closer to getting your Lion friend. Be prepared for many hits by bats and condors.
sku_u #4 Posted December 12, 2002 I still haven't mastered this game entirely, but the one thing that seems to work well for me when falling is to hit and pull back the joystick in a left-center or right-center direction to avoid falling too far. One other tip: always go to the nearest X before gathering any treasure. That way you'll lose less points when you do get hit by something. It is a great game, isn't it? D.Yancey #6 Posted December 14, 2002 The first two sections are not very difficult to get through flawlessly. After getting Rhonda and the ring you come to the third section with the endless bats and condors. This was the difficult part to squeak through without any hits. Those condors give me fits! If you play for a while, you won't be falling through any holes at all. Keep practicing and PM or e-mail me if you get stuck on any parts. I'd be glad to help anyone. I recently got the max score of 199,000 to join the masters in this elite club. You may soon achieve this as well! Game on my friends and good luck.
