zylon #26 Posted February 8, 2011 ...and my head is bigger than most. so just about most of those 3d glasses don't fit me. AX Just buy a used pre-broken set and put a strap from safety goggles on them and they'll fit just fine.

toptenmaterial #28 Posted February 8, 2011 I've never played the SMS but there seems to be a lot of admiration for it here. I do have a Wii, and I'm wondering if perhaps some of the master system ports on the virtual console are worthwhile...
Rockin' Kat #29 Posted February 8, 2011 While we on on the subject, will the 3D glasses work with the Power Base Converter for the Genesis model 1? Now that I know I can get replacement glasses to work for the SMS that I can actually use I'll have to buy a pair of the orginals for the part that plugs into the system and play the 3D games. I've been waiting for a way, and never knew you could get replacements like that. Are you saying you can get new 3D glasses? I'm a bit puzzled by your wording here. You can. Not official SEGA glasses, of course, but perfect replacements (go here). Any wired 3D shutter glasses should work, plus these are made for adults, whereas adult heads didn't fit the SEGA scope glasses, which is why they always broke. I totally just bought a pair of those. Now I don't think I will ever look quite this awesome ever again. The embarrassing picture below is from a few years back... the last time I ever bothered to try the 3D games on my SMS... Because they're annoying and cumbersome to get to stay on my head using the Velcro straps I tried using.
psquare75 #30 Posted February 8, 2011 My dad and I used to game for an hour or two with Spy vs Spy back in the day. I love that game, and it seems to be underappreciated. Great 2 player fun.
HatefulGravey #31 Posted February 8, 2011 While we are talking SMS hardware and such, will the SMS light gun work with the Genesis? I can't find a Genesis light gun for a reasonalbe price right now, but I know where I can get the SMS light gun cheap... just a thought.

It'll work with SMS games on the powerbase convertor but not genny games.

Greg2600 #35 Posted February 8, 2011 Only two Konami games used Justifier, Lethal Enforcers I and II on Genesis. Few more on SEGA CD. Only three games used the SEGA Menacer, the Menacer 6 game cart, Body Count, and Terminator 2. Again more on SEGA CD. IMO not worth either guns unless you're going to play the SEGA CD games. Though the Blue player 1 Justifier is not expensive. Red player 2 is. Menacer is not expensive, but were frequently broken.

I'll just be getting my fix from the MAME light guns talked about in the emulation forum.
TheGameCollector #37 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) I noticed somebody mentioned Sonic the Hedgehog as a good title to get and I'll second that. It is quite cheap if you import it from UK or Australia. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Chaos I like even better than Sonic 1 and they don't cost much more than Sonic 1 either. To make Sonic 2 easier, if you can get to Green Hills Zone there is a way to really stock up on extra lives to help with the difficulty of the game. I highly recommend importing those. Of them all, Sonic Chaos is the easiest to play and the most graphically pleasing. If you want a good game that plays like Zelda and isn't too pricey, get a Golvellius cartridge. It also has some side-scrolling action levels in addition to the overhead view. Edited February 9, 2011 by TheGameCollector
+Cafeman #38 Posted February 9, 2011 I went back the The Exchange on Southside, the one where a girl employee told me they didn't have any Master System games. I was looking through the Genesis games this time, and as I moved the stack around, a black & red cartridge behind them caught my eye. I removed more and more Genny carts to find a hidden treasure cove of Master System games! (don't get too excited - nothing rare). I already had some, and some I already decided not to get. I think I picked up Zillion 2, Astro Warrior, Grand Prix, Quartet, Shooting Gallery, and Marksman. We only briefly played some of these so far - I got a kick out of the Pole Positionness out of Grand Prix. Alex Kidd and lost stars too, I think. I will report back in a few days with mini-reviews of my 1st time playing all these MS games. Thanks for the recommendations - I'm good with my NA game collection, but I'll explore around the net and see where I can get more 90's stuff like Sonic. +Cafeman #39 Posted February 10, 2011 Wow, I got even more games for my new Master System! Found Spy vs Spy and Teddy Boy (both are PCB cards, not full cartridges) and I think both are fun quirky games. Also got Alien Syndrome and Aztec Adventure. these MS games have been really cheap ... the most I've paid was $10 for boxed Time Soldiers - all the others were either $1.00, $2.50, $3.33. or $5.00 each. Tonight I found time to play Outrun for quite a bit. I couldn't finish any race. It's funny how each port of this game has its own control and personality. On the 3rd stage always going left (desert stage I think), it's hard to see the road moving, and there are wicked S curves. I played some more World Grand Prix as well. this is my favorite MS racer. Good frame rate & playability.
Austin #40 Posted February 10, 2011 The track editor in WGP is pretty nifty, too. At least I think it had a track editor. Man it's been a while since I've played it.

The Sega glasses come with an adapter which plugs into the card slot. The glasses then plug into a socket in the adapter which I'm guessing is probably standard, in which case it wouldn't really require soldering or wire stripping unless you need to add the plug directly to your SMS because you don't have the card slot adapter. But then I'm still waiting on my glasses to get here and do not really know what to expect for sure since the picture on the store doesn't show the plug. +thegoldenband #44 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) Yeah, I don't have the card slot adapter. I'm guessing it was only used for the 3D glasses? Does it have active circuitry, or is it simply a passive conduit for on/off signals? There's some discussion here at SMSPower but a few of the tech details go over my head. Regardless it's an interesting surprise to read that there's a standardized TRS 1/8" connector for 3D glasses, and I'm guessing that is what will come with the pair you ordered from the link given earlier. the.golden.ax #45 Posted February 10, 2011 I've been giving this a ton of thought, and if my multimeter wasn't broken I could find out. Would love to see if you can use them without the adapter with a simple hack. AX
Greg2600 #46 Posted February 10, 2011 I'd think that there was specialized hardware in the 3d adapter card. Probably easier to get a PBC
Rockin' Kat #47 Posted February 12, 2011 There are ICs and stuff inside the adaptor, so it's not exactly a simple task to add the port directly to the SMS. As for the port on the adaptor, it would appear to be the same as the one the glasses I bought from that link are made to work with though I haven't actually tried using it yet. Also when I put the glasses on they proceeded to fall off my nose and the installed stems were set to their shortest settings. I had to put the included shorter stems in to wear them. These things are made to work on some huge heads.

Drixxel #49 Posted February 12, 2011 One of the cooler Master System games to keep an eye out for, in my opinion, is Ghouls 'n Ghosts. It plays quite a bit differently from any other installment in the series, most notably the unfixed jumping mechanics. For any Ghouls 'n Ghosts fan, it's worth checking out.
