SlowCoder #1 Posted February 6, 2011 I've had my Game Gear stored away for some time. Tonight, while doing some cleaning my wife told me she found all the boxes for my system, parts and games. I'm curious its value CIB. All parts work, and are in excellent cosmetic condition, including boxes, plastic storage cases for games, manuals, etc. Here's what I have: - Game Gear including AC adapter - Car adapter - Super Wide Gear for magnification (this is the only item not CIB) - Sega TV tuner - sure this isn't worth much due to the digital conversion, except to a completist collector. - Master Gear Converter - Ghouls n Ghosts (SMS) - R-Type (SMS) (not excellent cosmetically due to label scuffing on edges) - Mortal Kombat - Columns - Klax - Prince of Persia - Sonic the Hedgehog - Leaderboard Golf - Clutch Hitter - Chase HQ - Terminator - Joe Montana Football I am original owner on everything, and took good care of it. I'm not expecting to hear that the stuff is worth a lot. Just being curious.

Affraid I can't give you any real insight into the value as I'm not to sure but most of the time when I see a GG for sale its going for around $20-40, not to sure about the games or TV tuner. If your interested in selling it let me know, my brother has been talking recently about trying to get one and might be interested since your said yours is in good condition. Individually, about $45 for the Game Gear boxed, $20-25 for the master gear converter, $10 for the car charger, $10 for the magnifying screen, $10 for the TV tuner, about $3 each for the GG games, and $4 each for the SMS games, or about $10-15 boxed. Although there may be a game or two in there with a higher rarity that may fetch for more.

Sorry, it's not currently for sale. But I appreciate the interest. Eventually I'll start getting some more games and play it a bit more. For the whole kit-n-caboodle, about $120-150 I would expect to realistically get for it. This actually more than what I was expecting to hear. I was figuring about $100 for everything. So I'm kind of happy.
Seob #5 Posted February 7, 2011 Have you already powered it up again. If you are going to sell it, you want to know if the sound still works. Since this is a game gear weak spot. The capacitors used for the sound board go bad over time, and needs to be replaced to be able to listen to sound on the onboard speaker.

It is my plan to replace the capacitors throughout the unit. Sound still works, but the display is getting a little bit dim.

Atari_afternoon #8 Posted February 12, 2011 Seob is right. My own sidetracking into the GG world (the final "90ies console I´ve always wanted") started with a disappointment, the received GG praised as in "good condition" arrived having no sound and turning itself off after 3 seconds. A quick Google research before would have saved some grief (and about 20 Euro) because rotting capacitors seem to be a common GG aging problem. Nothing that a little soldering and that special screwdriver for that one screw cannot solve comparatively easily. I assume this "running condition" would determine a lklot of a GG´s value. (The previous owner of my now working GG, I have asked her if sound and screen are ok, the sound is already slightly quiet but screen is ok and I can live with it.) [paid 32 Euros for GG with Battery Pack, power plug and 12 games, all w/out boxes tho.]
TheGameCollector #9 Posted February 12, 2011 I figure since I am going the extra mile to get Game Gear games CIB I'm going to be paying someone to do the RGB out mod to a Game Gear and send it to me. He is automatically going to put new capacitors in and add a controller port. First I have to get the RGB SCART to component converter and test it though. In addition to the $40 converter, the job is $100 + shipping costs both ways. All this effort and investment to play the Game Gear exclusives on the TV using the original hardware and cartridges and turn a faulty handheld into a solid gaming console.
