Tezz sent me a message six days ago and I forgot to reply till I saw this topic...That's ok Jon, no worries, I know you're full on with the GUI Hopefully the only thing this game will share with the original will be the name, since i recall at the time that most people slated the game, claiming that the only decent thing about the game was the 'pause' feature How's about a hack of 'G&G' tezz, just to outdo your fellow mancunians attempt with 'domain of the undead'
Tezz #7 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) It was slated? I don't recall that. As for GnG, Gonzo started that last year: I'm not sure how far he intended to take that though. Domain of the undead should be buried in the desert next to the ET carts and never mentioned again Edited February 15, 2011 by Tezz
+Random Terrain #8 Posted February 15, 2011 I like the faster NTSC version of the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8bR4xsNgIA&rel=0&fmt=35&showinfo=
Rybags #9 Posted February 15, 2011 Sounds like it's an 8-voice stereo job. But yes, it does sound better at the higher speed.
+Random Terrain #10 Posted February 15, 2011 Sounds like it's an 8-voice stereo job. But yes, it does sound better at the higher speed. Oops, I forgot to mention that's from the Commodore 64.
Tezz #11 Posted February 15, 2011 Cool, yea it still works ok at the higher speed. I'm used to it at it's intended speed though in PAL land That linked video has the volume of the channels altered and it's a little OTT with the reverb.
Tezz #12 Posted February 15, 2011 This is the second track from the game. There's just a few corrections left to make with a couple of duff high notes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFU9rz-n7bE
R4ngerM4n #13 Posted February 15, 2011 This is the second track from the game. There's just a few corrections left to make with a couple of duff high notes. Sounds very authentic. Good job! No 'hardsynth' or whatsoever needed to make the Hubbard stuff sound great.
analmux #14 Posted February 15, 2011 No 'hardsynth' or whatsoever needed to make the Hubbard stuff sound great. Just curious. Do you think hardsynth is just nonsense? Or, let's translate this into another question: why mentioning hardsynth anyway?
emkay #15 Posted February 15, 2011 No 'hardsynth' or whatsoever needed to make the Hubbard stuff sound great. Just curious. Do you think hardsynth is just nonsense? Or, let's translate this into another question: why mentioning hardsynth anyway? Actually, I think Tezz's approach there is nice, because he used 16 bit bass at least. As we know, 16 bit and hardsynth do not work together. Tunes like the Chimera ones do better with 16 bit bass. But what's missing is the frequency arpeggio for more "high pitch options".... The funny plot is that the tune , his post was related to, is a non finished one The 2nd funny plot is that Tezz already changed many high notes in the 1st tune to compensate the wrong pitches there..... So - in theory - they are not "Hubbard" anymore. So the whole sentence "whatsoever needed to make the Hubbard stuff sound great" is obsolete
Tezz #16 Posted February 15, 2011 Yes, the highest octave notes are detuned because of that. The main title tune has not been altered at all though and is 100% from Rob's Player. I just intend to do some work on the interpreter for that with the noise table to take the volume of the snare down. The 2nd track wip posted above has been altered in the fact that I've transposed down one offending pattern directly in Rob's Procedure and will do the same with the remaining couple of out of range notes. Tezz #18 Posted February 16, 2011 I loved this game, very fun... There was a problem with it though, and I think due to a bug it was unable to be completed properly.ok, thanks for the heads up, I'll look into that.

How is that "Rob's Player" working exactly. It sounds very "time correct" not like a VBI based player.

I was just about to say the same thing Sorry I didn't have time to help more but I went straight from one project to another and got kind of sidetracked It's all sounding great. +therealbountybob #22 Posted February 16, 2011 I thought the original Chimera was one of the better isometric games, he moved fairly quickly on most screens. There's a map and full solution in Page 6 Magazine Issue 41's Tipster column Might have to have another bash at it! I never got that pause mode hidden game? to work - how do you access it

José What you listen in the videos is some "emulated" SID playback. It's not usable for games .... this way. Also it uses 3 channels, UWOL needs 4 of them ....
