Trak Ball Observations

I got a 2600 trak ball recently, and have had mixed results.

 

Centipede is far more responsive in the vertical direction than the horizontal for some unknown reason.

 

Crystal Castles doesn't move Bentley Bear fast enough as compared to arcade version.

 

Missile Command is flawless. I only wish I had this controller years ago for this game.

 

I have tried the controller in both joystick and trak ball modes, but Centipede and Crystal Castles had even worse control in joystick mode. I even took the trak ball apart and cleaned the roller bearings and cue ball, but it only gave slightly better performance.

Indeed - you haven't played Missile Command on the 2600 until you've played Thomas' Trak-Ball hack.
