Tyrant #1 Posted February 16, 2011 Hiya, can someone point me to a decent guide to setting up a Jag emulator with cd-bios. I'm trying to capture some crisp images of the CD startup / loading screens, and analoge video capture just isn't going to cut it.
carmel_andrews #2 Posted February 16, 2011 As far as i remember, both recent jag emulators (project tempest and virt.jaguar) the cd emulation part of those emulators is broken (i.e not working), And i think the jaguar emulation in mess is also broken (as it has a 'not working' icon next to it's entry)
The_Laird #3 Posted February 16, 2011 Yeah there is no emulator, yet, that supports the Jag CD. Although the upcoming Jagulator is scheduled to.
Zerosquare #4 Posted February 16, 2011 Project Tempest supports some CD games (but doesn't run the CD BIOS intro). Virtual Jaguar should run the CD BIOS, but it doesn't seem to boot games. And Dio's T2K emulator (you can find it on Jeff Minter's forum) emulates the VLM.
Tyrant #5 Posted February 18, 2011 Project Tempest supports some CD games (but doesn't run the CD BIOS intro). Virtual Jaguar should run the CD BIOS, but it doesn't seem to boot games. And Dio's T2K emulator (you can find it on Jeff Minter's forum) emulates the VLM. Like I said I only really want a couple of good grabs of the cd bios loading screens (ideally the one with colour washing over the whole screen in bands) to use as a background to something else, but analog capture by composite video out isn't going to quite cut it. I'll give VJ a try and see if I can get it to run, thanks.
sheath #6 Posted February 18, 2011 I have tried to set up Jaguar emulators for cartridges before and have not seen good results. Are any of the emulators to the point that I can take screenshots of Doom at the original resolution?
carmel_andrews #7 Posted February 18, 2011 mmm, sounds like someone is rejigging the jagulator to actually doing something (as i don't remember the orig. version doing much)

Thanks, I'll see what I can do with that. I'm starting a comparison video of the Jaguar, 32X, PS1 3DO and SNES versions of DOOM. It occurred to me that I could post resolution comparisons and other details as well. I'm sure kool kitty89 would have some input on that.
carmel_andrews #10 Posted February 21, 2011 to save opening up another thread.....I seem to be having some issues with virtual jaguar (i just downloaded a recent 'svn' from emucr.com....Virtual Jaguar SVN r336) the problem is the emulator seems to crash if you set the cfg file to 'old style rendering' (i.e not opengl) is there a way round this problem (since opengl runs the emulation at a snails pace)
