Can I swap out the hard drives?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Got an old 360 with 120GB hard drive, but the ethernet port's dead. I'd like to get a new kinect bundle with the newer design 360, but I know they don't use the same hard drive casing. I'm wondering if I could crack open the hard drive case for each & swap the innards. Anybody know how well this might work?

Thanks!

I don't think it will work. I know the cased drives wont' work, but I think they are using IDE's on the old drives and the new ones are SATA.

You can get a thumb drive, up to 16 GB and copy saved games that way, if your old system still works. Or you can get the transfer cable, which plugs into the drive and hooks to a USB port on your console to let you copy your drive.

You can take an old 360 sidecar hard drive apart and pull out the SATA drive for use in a 360S model. Your best bet is to attach a piece of tape to the front of the HD to make a little tab that you can hold it by and lower into the 360S bay to get it connected. Then just use a small piece of foam on the top and bottom of the drive to keep it in place.

Yes, I have done this personally. :D

Will this work on the 4GB models? If so then I just may get a slim and swap HDD's.
