SEgamer #1 Posted February 18, 2011 Someone locally is selling a setup with an Atari 1040STFM Computer, SC2224 Color Monitor, and an external hard drive with NEODESK installed for $250. I'm thinking that's pretty high, but I don't know how much an external hard drive is. Any help is appreciated.
svenski #2 Posted February 18, 2011 Sounds a bit steep to me but working ST external drives sometimes go for silly money. Do you know what drive it is?
Rybags #3 Posted February 18, 2011 1040 ST/FM - probably 80% of what you see up for sale, machine on it's own anything from $25-$40 or $50 depending on where you live (country). Colour monitor - $30-$40 but again depends where you live. ST and Amiga monitors getting kinda scarce here so you pay the higher end, often more. HDD - very dependant on model. Got a Megafile 30 here and I reckon I'd be lucky to get 50 bucks if I sold it. But for other models you might be anywhere from 30 to over 100 bucks. For such a setup as you mention, take off $70 or so and assume the remainder to be paying for the HDD alone. As such, $180 for that seems way high. SEgamer #4 Posted February 19, 2011 Thanks for the info. I'm going to assume it's a megafile hdd since I haven't asked them about it yet. I'll see if they still have it and offer them around $100, mainly because a similar setup without the hard drive went for $51 on ebay. (though the $48 shipping probably had something to do with it). I was just making sure the hard drives weren't over the top expensive.
Rybags #5 Posted February 19, 2011 There's also a later version (not sure if they called it Megafile) that takes removable HDD type cartridges. I think it might be 120 meg capacity - and no idea what the availability of the media is. I saw one go for pretty good bucks, but it's usability value would be dependant on whether you could easily/cheaply find the cartridges for it.

You can also add an internal hard drive to the megafile 44.
SEgamer #7 Posted February 19, 2011 Here's a pic of the drive he e-mailed me: He said he built the drive, and that the company who made the kit is/was ICD. He also added: "I did find the manual on the Hard Drive adapter. It is SCSI based and the SCSI host adapter if for a company called ICD." Just wondering if this would add any to the $110 I originally had in mind for the lot. (40 for the comp, 30 for the monitor, 40 for the hdd)

Might add $20 or so to the value
