Video #2 Posted February 18, 2011 Well, everybody does things to people with moded systems, Xbox has banned hacked xboxes for years, and if you play a moded Wii online, you can actually brick the thing. In any case, it always seemed like a boneheaded move to me, to bar people from the one service they actually have to pay for to get/use...but then, the smarter people will ;likely have a moded system for personal use, and a unmoded one for online stuff, if they do online stuff. And this is precisely what Sony is hoping happens.
cimerians #4 Posted February 18, 2011 You have to be a moron to connect with a modded machine. They are the stupid asses and I have no sympathy for them. Bastards. I've had to deal with locked save games, hours of data copying, DRM bullshit and other nonsense on the count of cheats and hackers. They can just drop dead. Now I can post how I really feel.....
toptenmaterial #5 Posted February 18, 2011 Sony will say that their PSN costumers are like patrons at a nightclub, and can be banned for breaking the rules. Think about AtariAge itself: we are all here at the "beheast" of the admin, so to speak. If you break the rules here, you may also be banned (though AA is no doubt more compassionate than Sony). Chris Leach #6 Posted February 18, 2011 Im not real keen on this whole idea of banning people, but the online network is terrible anyways...The biggest thing it does is piss me off whenever there is an update and then I need to wait and then I need to do this before I can do that..>! Fuck Sony! I used to love them but their shat needed to be hacked!

Fuck Sony! I used to love them but their shat needed to be hacked! That always drove me nuts about the ps3, almost every friggin time I wanted to play a game for a few minutes I was prompted for an update. It was maddening. GregadetH #8 Posted March 2, 2011 if you play a moded Wii online, you can actually brick the thing. Not true at all. A Wii can only be bricked if you accept Nintendo's current updates. This has nothing to do with online play. Nintendo do not even have the means to check your console's firmware while playing online. They do, however, ban anyone caught running "ocarina" or any other cheats online. I've been playing online games through my USB loader for over two years now, no problem. Nintendo know's that piracy is actually DRIVING sales of Wii hardware and they're not stupid enough to go ape shit on modders like Sony is doing. Even Microsoft knows this. They only ban users from online play with modded consoles, that's it. Sony is trying to say that your console is not yours, they own it and you're only renting it from them. Therefor, if you've modded it, you should go to jail or pay a fine. It's nothing more than sour grapes for calling their console "unhackable" and being proven wrong.
Underball #9 Posted March 2, 2011 You mean I might get banned from a service I was never interested in anyway? Oh no, not that. You'd think Sony's focus would be more about going after the pirates who are leaking their games weeks early (that's gotta be an insider at a game publishing company), or going after the torrent sites and download houses like rapidshare who are hosting links to pirated versions of their games. PSN probably represents 5% of their total PS3 revenue. what a bunch of morons.

I was able to pull up something which I think was the original article on Google cache, though. What I want to ask is where you're reading that this will result in American PS3s not being able to play Japanese or European games? The article I read said nothing whatsoever about adding region locks to games. A PS3 user doesn't need to mod their system to play legitimate Japanese or European releases. iswitt #11 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) As far as the hacking goes, if I purchase a console, I own the thing and I can damn well do what I please with it (regardless of what their "rules" or "laws" say). However, I put my foot down when it comes to using my abilities to gain unfair advantages over others in online play and I can see why companies would be vigilant when it comes to this. It just simply isn't fun without a challenge. Sony is just crying because the PS1/2 eras are gone and they are no longer the reigning kings of any particular gaming market. Maybe if they'd focus more on publishing GOOD games for the console and ones that aren't already on PC, 360 and Wii there would some incentive to buy it. A BlueRay player is not an incentive to buy a console. Edited March 2, 2011 by iswitt
