Rev. Rob #1 Posted February 21, 2011 And what a disappointment. After years of searching for this game, I finally give in and pick one up for the going rate. It's in great condition, which is good, and then I play it. I had avoided playing it on the emulators because when I finally completed my (US) 32X collection I wanted to enjoy the game as a new experience. I love Blue Sky, but it's easy to tell that they were no where near done with this game. I am sure that under the layers of bugs and glitches, there's an excellent game waiting to be polished. I'd like to play that game. Graphical glitches are rampant in the early stages where sprites where flicker into and out of existence at random. The hit detection is so clunky that sometimes when an enemy is "tied up" he can't be punched out. There are points where Spidy can't shoot though objects but enemies can. And in the second stage there's a fatal flaw where if you accidentally climb an object you get stuck until your life bar is drained. There's even a point where they recycled Vectorman sound effects. *sigh* Other than that, it's buckets of fun! /sarcasm. Really, though, Spidy is fast and fluid. Though his attacked are limited they flow nicely. The graphics are creative and flying from the rooftops is intuitive and feels so free. Like I said, there's an excellent game in there somewhere. GKC #2 Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) And what a disappointment. After years of searching for this game, I finally give in and pick one up for the going rate. Given what the going rate is do you think your opinion would be different if it was more on par price wise with other 32x games? I've never played it and probably never will with its price but I wonder if a lot of the flack I get is partially due to its price. SoulBlazer #3 Posted February 22, 2011 Rumor has it that the company, once they found out that Sega had stopped their 32X support, quickly rushed the game out the door, bugs be damned. They were concerned (and probaly rightly so) that no one would want to buy a new game that came out 4-6 months after a system was ended. Looking at games that came out late for other systems, it's hard to say they weren't correct. The game just needed more time to be polished and finished, as you correctly noted. I've only played it on a emulator due to the high price but right away saw many of the same issues you did. It's too bad they didn't decide to port this to the Saturn in a more 'finished' form.
xg4bx #4 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) What does this game go for? I have a nice condition cartridge but meh condition box. What could I sell just the cartridge for? I also discovered I have a c.I.b. copy of t-mek, isn't that pretty rare? Edited February 22, 2011 by xg4bx
Austin #5 Posted February 22, 2011 It isn't a bad game.. It's perfectly playable and can be enjoyable when you get comfortable with it. The problem with it (asides from seeming rushed and not much better than a Genesis title) is that it is rare and goes for $100+. That in itself is hard to justify enjoying the game for what it is (unless you're using emulation). If it was a common, $10+ game like the majority of the system's library, it would be a different story altogether. I also discovered I have a c.I.b. copy of t-mek, isn't that pretty rare? T-Mek is claimed to be "rare", but it varies (vastly) in price. I kicked myself over the holiday season because a CIB one went for under $15 (no bids). Some may go for more, but that should give you a general idea of what you could get for it.

I've never played it and probably never will with its price but I wonder if a lot of the flack I get is partially due to its price. I don't think it's on par with other Blue Sky games, like Vectorman. My opinion wouldn't change if it cost less. Bugs and all, Spidy is still better than several 32X games by comparison. Blue Sky was kind of a Sega second party developer at the time. What does this game go for? I have a nice condition cartridge but meh condition box. What could I sell just the cartridge for? I also discovered I have a c.I.b. copy of t-mek, isn't that pretty rare? Well, you would want to sell it with the meh condition box. Cart alone can go for $70 to $90 at auction. T-Mek isn't as rare as the hype says it is. It's worth a solid $40 to $60. Edited March 2, 2011 by Rev. Rob

I was just thinking about the rest of the 32x library. For instance I love Doom on the 32x at under $10. Had it been $50+ I probably would be a little more critical of it. But if a game is just bad, like you say Spiderman is, then it's bad no matter the $$.
