toymailman #1 Posted February 28, 2011 I am putting together a list below that will be similar to the heavy sixer serial number list found in the 2600 thread.Last Update: Post #277I think the order from earliest to latest consoles is as follows."EP" - these were the original 5000 made in El Paso Texas in mid 1984."AT84" - early batch still with Atari Inc."AT85" - early batch now with Atari Corp"A1" - initial models still had the expansion interface"A1" - later models lost the expansion interface"A3" - next run of the 7800 units"X" - final run of 7800 units? If anyone has more information that would be useful in the descriptions above then feel free to suggest it too.EP Units:EP 001292 -FyrebirdEP 002574 -toymailman (CIB with all packaging)EP 003976 -toymailman EP 004179 -atariguy1021EP 008042 -Tubular Gearhead EP 008072 -supavgx EP 009706 -7800 AT84 Units:AT84 00008 -Mulletizer AT84 03172 -CorbyAT84 03242 -LemmiAT84 05435 -Retrogamer81081 AT84 06528 -famicommander AT84 07751 -Illtiger1 AT84 08200 -E-MAN2001 AT84 09103 -PacManPlus (cool Silver paint job)AT84 14616 -MitchAT84 16922 -toymailman (CIB with the stickers)AT84 16972 -Brian R. phattyboombatty #2 Posted March 1, 2011 Nice! Neat to see the "Warner Communications Company" yet on that early 1984 model. I thought mine was a pretty early model, since it has the Expansion Interface on the side. But my serial number begins with an "A1". I have A1 76 5803182. Lynxpro #3 Posted March 1, 2011 Impressive. Did you buy any of those during the limited 1984 test launch? I'd prefer to have one of those translucent cases that Atari Inc. produced for internal mold testing. I also like the white "Jaguar" case that one user posted on Facebook [on Atari's wall] which was from the dental instrument mold.

toymailman #5 Posted March 1, 2011 Impressive. Did you buy any of those during the limited 1984 test launch? No, just the last few years. That would've been cool though. I am still searching for a very early model. I think the first batch of 5000 produced in El Paso had an "EP" in the serial number somewhere.
+Mitch #6 Posted March 1, 2011 Not counting protos, I believe my earliest one is AT8414616. Though I have a few more 7800s boxed up somewhere. Mitch

Tubular Gearhead #10 Posted March 3, 2011 I have two with the expansion port, and three w/o. One of the expansion port ones is one of the early models made in El Paso Tx (note the "EP" in the serial #) That brings up a question that maybe one of the experts can answer for me. I had always heard that there were only 5000 of these made in Texas, but mine is #8042. So did they start numbering at one, or a later number? Did they make more than 5000? Also, it has "Made in Taiwan" printed, but it clearly says "EP 264" in the serial??? Any thoughts? Here are all of them, including the non expansion port ones just for the heck of it... Cheers! toymailman #11 Posted March 3, 2011 I moved mine 7800's from post #1 so that can be where I keep the list. ------------------ I don't have any of the original 5000 that I found discussed in other threads, but I have a few that start with an "AT" (both 84 and 85). The 84's are Atari Inc. while the 85's have an Atari Corp on them. I have: AT8416922 (CIB with the stickers and Rescue on Fractalus on cover) AT8430276 AT8450981 AT8453505 AT8460391 AT8462898 AT85027591 AT85027818

When I saw this post, I decided to check my serial numbers and came across an oddball. Help me out with this one: It looks to be made in China, and I assume it does not have the expansion interface. This one might be after the "A3" series. I'll add it in the list at the end unless someone knows better.

Tubular Gearhead #21 Posted March 4, 2011 Are any of these systems serial #'s more coveted than others? If so, what is the difference between them? There are some older threads about the differences. Here is one about the 1984 earlier models... http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/9812-1984-7800s/ There are a much smaller number of these earlier models out there, they were made in Texas , and they also tend to be fully socketed on the motherboard. It took me a while to find one, so they hold more value to me. I think some of the back history on the 7800 is pretty interesting stuff.
