7800 Serial Number List (updated 06/30/2017)

I am putting together a list below that will be similar to the heavy sixer serial number list found in the 2600 thread.

I think the order from earliest to latest consoles is as follows.
"EP" - these were the original 5000 made in El Paso Texas in mid 1984.
"AT84" - early batch still with Atari Inc.
"AT85" - early batch now with Atari Corp
"A1" - initial models still had the expansion interface
"A1" - later models lost the expansion interface
"A3" - next run of the 7800 units
"X" - final run of 7800 units?

If anyone has more information that would be useful in the descriptions above then feel free to suggest it too.

Nice! Neat to see the "Warner Communications Company" yet on that early 1984 model. I thought mine was a pretty early model, since it has the Expansion Interface on the side. But my serial number begins with an "A1".

I'd prefer to have one of those translucent cases that Atari Inc. produced for internal mold testing. I also like the white "Jaguar" case that one user posted on Facebook [on Atari's wall] which was from the dental instrument mold.

I am still searching for a very early model. I think the first batch of 5000 produced in El Paso had an "EP" in the serial number somewhere.

I have two with the expansion port, and three w/o. One of the expansion port ones is one of the early models made in El Paso Tx (note the "EP" in the serial #)

 

That brings up a question that maybe one of the experts can answer for me. I had always heard that there were only 5000 of these made in Texas, but mine is #8042.

So did they start numbering at one, or a later number? Did they make more than 5000?

Also, it has "Made in Taiwan" printed, but it clearly says "EP 264" in the serial???

 

Any thoughts?

I don't have any of the original 5000 that I found discussed in other threads, but I have a few that start with an "AT" (both 84 and 85). The 84's are Atari Inc. while the 85's have an Atari Corp on them.

The solder pads for the expansion port are still on the motherboard, but the pins are missing.

It took me a while to find one, so they hold more value to me.
