7800 Serial Number List

Thought my two had been documented already but guess not. Here are my two:

This first one is my original 7800 by parents bought for me for my birthday back in Oct of '87. Still works great with the only modifications done to it being a Blue LED added to it back in '99 and it has been converted with Eckard's DEV OS bios modifications. The mainboard does have the expansion port installed and the system is fully compatible with all 2600 titles including Robot Tank, Decathlon, and 2600 Dark Chambers. There are jumper wires and added resistors on the bottom of the board so I suspect this was refurbished by Atari in the late 80's and then packaged and sold as new.

This is my primary 7800 that I keep hooked up and ready to play. It has the LHE A/V mod board installed that I did about 2 years ago now and a Blue LED as well. Like my other 7800 it also has no trouble playing all the 2600 library of games. It is a newer revision board as it doesn't have the expansion port installed, but does still have the silk screening and traces to install one on the board.

Figured i should add my system to the list. Its a cib 7800 with matching serial number on box. It has the exp port on the side and has been modded w/s-video.

Due to another thread I looked at my 7800 s/n which is:

 

A1 88 5473506. No expansion interface.

Found a unit with a smashed shell. Had a hole for the expansion, but it was not soldered in.

My latest acquisition is S/N: A3 9B1 5287646.

 

I picked up this console earlier today. It is new, in its original box. Box and console S/N's match. Pro-Line Controllers as well as the Console still have their protective film covering. I may have to keep this one behind a glass case with instructions to "only" break glass, in the event that all other consoles have ceased to exist.

 

I'm not sure of the year of mfg. (maybe someone here can help decipher that for me), but by comparing it to our list, I would say that it's a late production model. The Owners Manual is C024819-001 Rev-C (G.C. 10. 1990). By the way, anyone else have a unit with a Made in China label placed over the original Made in Taiwan label?

Congrats on the console acquisition. It's great to own a pristine looking console and double bonus points for acquiring the matching box in excellent shape.

 

For the "A1" and "A3" serial labelled consoles, the two characters following the aforementioned prefix indicate year then month of manufacture date.

 

The first character: 6, 7, 8, 9, or 0, represent the years 1986 through 1990 respectively.

 

The second character: 1-9 or A-C, represents the month. 1-9 covers January through September. A-C spans October through December.

 

Therefore, your console was most likely manufactured sometime in 1989 during November.

 

For serials overall:

"EP" = 'First batch' of consoles manufactured in 1984.

"AT84" = Additional consoles manufactured in 1984.

"AT85" = Consoles manufactured in 1985.

"A1" = Consoles manufactured in 1986 through 1988.

"A3" = Consoles manufactured in 1988 through 1990.

"X" = 'Last batch' of consoles.

There appears to be exceptions to the above, including overlap with the A1 and A3 units; still, the above applies in general.

The 7800 gods have really smiled upon me this week. I picked up my 2nd boxed 7800. Matching S/N's on box and console and the console has the Expansion Interface.

Just picked up another 7800 this evening. First one since 2009!!! Sadly, the controllers don't work properly and the picture is a little fuzzy (likely due to the utilization of a Turbo Grafx RF adapter). Pretty cool its a first production run unit... I suppose with a little more monetary investment and some TLC, this unit will be refurbed in no time!

Cool! Our consoles are closely related too. My EI 7800's S/N is A1 74 5825114. So both consoles were manufactured in 1987, during April.
