The thing that bugs me about the ebay listing is that CPUWIZ spent a LOT of money and effort to make this.

He didn't have to do that. He did it for US.

I'm guessing it was a multiple-thousand dollar purchase, and these carts probably still don't even break him even.

Who knows if they ever will? Bottom line-- this was at CPUWIZ's loss to do.

 

With this kind of behavior, why would anybody consider buying any other protos that get offered, for the purpose of sharing them?

Whoever listed it is not helping the community at all. This will probably be the last time anyone will go out of their way on a purchase.

Having someone else profit from your own goodwill and sweat is simply not cool, especially if you're still in the hole from it.

 

In all honesty, I bought the game not because I liked it, or because it had a cool label. Heck, the rumor has it that the gameplay is not all that good.

In reality, I bought the game to support people like CPUWIZ, who put their own financial gain on the line in order to help a small community of atari-philes.

I did it because it was the right thing to do (and now that I have it, yes, I really like the label).

 

If the lister makes any money OVER what they paid for it (which they almost certainly will), I'm hoping the seller sends some (if not all) of the proceeds to CPUWIZ.

 

In fairness, we should give the lister a chance to respond. I hope they rescind the listing.

 

CPUWIZ-- have you considered putting maybe 5 up on ebay yourself?

I dont think that the Wiz is overly concerned about the listing. And if he was more concerned about recouping his outlay he would have commenced by listing them on ebay himself. i think his idea was to get this reproduced and available to a large number of collectors are the lowest possible price. if someone tried to make a bit of extra cash from his hard work i dont think he will lose much sleep over it...

I can't believe this muther fucker took your work and put it on ebay! The game hasn't even made it to some of those who purchsed the item and its already on ebay. Maybe there should have been some sort of rule that says I am only selling this game to the die hards on Atariage...if you kept it for five years and then resold it, that might be one thing..to each his own, but I for one would never sell to that jerk again..,

 

Seriously though. Who does this? CPUWIZ, this game is a work of art and it belongs in the Atari library of anyone who owns Atari games or calls himself a collector and now others might not even be able to get this item because you only made so many....Just like the Halo release..Maybe the first run should have been numbered....

 

I am kinda a new guy here, but I will jump on any chance I come across to reasonably add a piece of AtariAge history to my collection. Often times I miss out on these one of a kind opportunities....I did not miss out on this opportunity as it was offered to the general AtariAge community with a couple stipulations, but if I missed this chance to own Power Lords and saw that now the only way I could get it was to go on ebay and pay $100 for it....I would be pissed more so than I am now....sure reproductions show up on the net for resale all the time, but seriously when the initial offering was so much lower? It's just like scalping a red man and saying you didn't do it...>Even though you are white man and have blood on yer hands of the Poor lad who lost his scalp!

 

I say we take pics with each of our names in the pic showing we still have this cart....but we have to take it next to a combat cart or something and post it here showing we were not the perp that went and resold CWiz's stuff......

 

I for one want reproduction games in the community and to see someone take all their time and energy in bringing it to the table....as I'm too stupid to make my own....just to have someone else make a profit off of it makes me sick! (demand is there, the initial sell could have been for much more, but lower interest would have been found)

 

This is theft and theft only makes prices go up!

Honestly? Why couldn't it just be resold right here for cost? A bunch of ppl have expressed interest that missed out on the initial run. Why put it on ebay if not to profit off it?

I didn't notice it was a limited edition, I made an error and I thought it was an unlimited run. That changes things, yeah, the right thing to do would have been to just sell it here in that case...well, if you want to keep your forum respect at least. I didn't notice it was a limited edition, I made an error and I thought it was an unlimited run. Well I don't know that it is truly a "limited edition" as in it was not truly *advertised* as such, but pretty much anything CPU does I would consider "limited edition" since he's not really doing it ongoing to make a buck.

I'm not too concerned, I know I'll never be on CPU's list of "won't sell to" since I don't resell homemades/brews for profit. Even the ones that suck I hold on to as a collector.

And believe me...I've bought some over the years that were exciting to own right up until I tried playing them and they're still in my collection.

But that's me.

Yeah, I bought one because I wanted something new to add to my collection not because I expected it to be a truly awesome game. Also the label looks really cool. I hope it is somewhat fun to play, but regardless I wouldn't turn around and put it up on ebay the day I get it in the mail. That isn't cool.

WOW! I have bought lots ofg items here on Atariage this happens to be the first one that i Listed, I also bought Merlins Walls here and hated that as well, They both are up for auction. I'm sorry if it offended you CPUWIZ and anyone else. I have 100's of games in my collection, don't play all of them, but the Repros, Hacks and new games, which will not appreciate in value, I like to enjoy them. Sorry I didn't like it. I have personally bought at least 10 other games here lots of homebrews and yes limited releases and I loved them( I don't really rhink this is a limited release either,as more orders have come in and been made)the other games I bought are still in my collection and will be for a long time.

 

Hopefully I won't be disqualified form buying future releases, but know that if I don't care for them, I may list it on Ebay.

I may be in the minority, but I actually like the game. It reminds me of two other oddball/quirky titles: M*A*S*H* and Cosmic Ark. All three have just two screens, simple graphics, and repetitive play. And I enjoy all three because the two screens have totally different play from each other.

 

I liked toymailman's post a few pages ago, and his suggestions about a few ways to improve the game. That made sense. And I agree that it would make a fun HSC game. So far, on game one, I have reached the mid 800s. But I didn't know about the endless points idea that he mentioned. I just flew around and shot things. I noticed that it's much safer to shoot the enemy spaceships after they have passed. His post helped quite a bit. Possibly someone could use it to make a manual and a listing in the rarity guide? Can anyone do this? Or does it have to be a moderator? It would be nice to have an entry for it to show screenshots, have a few tips, and tell a little history of the game. However, it might increase the demand and then cause CPUWIZ's mailman/woman to detest him even more .

 

Anyway, I like the game. Thanks for making this one happen CPUWIZ.

Just got a chance to play through it thoroughly. My only complaint about this game is that, even on the advanced setting, it's way too easy. I was able to rack up extra lives and such once I got the hang of it, no problem. You get one like every 5,000 points. They should have upped that to at least 10,000. But, at any rate, I think it's a pretty enjoyable game. I can see why it was shelved, but it's fun to me, I like it.

 

One thing of note, you don't just fight Arkus. The game has three waves of DIFFERENT enemies. It adds a second ship to torment you during the snake round, but there are also two different characters in the game. After you beat the Arkus round (strange that he's first) and go through the second snake, you then have to face Raygoth. No real difference in the two other than the sprites. Raygoth actually looks kind of cool when he gets closer. The third enemy is Dsguyzor. He looks pretty cool too, but they did a little something with him. Since he can "disguise" himself, he phases out of view until he shoots, so it makes it harder to hit him as he approaches. If they upped the speed progressively and jacked the difficulty a tad, perhaps adding some more ships in the snake round, it would have been pretty solid. I still think it's a lot of fun, but probably the easiest 2600 game I've played.
