Goochman #1 Posted March 2, 2011 Ok Im not very experienced in this overseas stuff - my question is what to put on the Customs Forms. There is no export restriction on old video carts but since the US Gov does have restrictions on certain electronics I want to make sure nothing I write raises a red flag. If you put 'video game' does that raise a red flag? I presume 'software' would raise a flag as that could have some 'code' with export restrictions. Curious what others have done in the US when sending overseas?
HatefulGravey #2 Posted March 2, 2011 I would vote "toys" or "collectables".

+GroovyBee #4 Posted March 2, 2011 From the UK to the US I've never had a problem with just putting "video game".
svenski #6 Posted March 2, 2011 Put "sex videos" and a value of $300 .
atari2atari #7 Posted March 2, 2011 Not as funny as Raskar's, but amusingly, whenever I order games (EZ Flash carts, usually) or parts from small shops in Korea or China, they always write "sample product" on the customs form . . . -a2a
raskar42 #8 Posted March 2, 2011 even better "biological samples"
SoulBlazer #9 Posted March 2, 2011 I've shipped to a number of countries, including Canada, Brazil, Spain, UK, Sweden, Germany, Italy, and Australia, and never had any problems putting down 'video game' on the customs form.

jumbojohnny #12 Posted March 2, 2011 just put the title of the game. nothing else. I have sent a few hundred packages abroad in the last 18 months, never have I had any problems.
Odysseus #13 Posted March 2, 2011 I also have things shipped as videogames. Never had an issue. There is no import tax on videogames or systems into the US unless from a restricted country

Ha Ha yep that would be why. Its also a crazy percent. 35% of the costHere it is in the Harmonized Tarrif schedule 9504.10.00 00 Video games of a kind used with a television receiver and parts and accessoriesthereof Free 35% Its a useful tool for importing anything. Just search for whatever you want to import. for those who dont know how to read the schedule, anything under general is a typical country, special are the rare occasions that some countries are excepted and 2 is the fee for restricted countries, like North Korea Harmonized Tarriff Schedule Edited March 5, 2011 by njb12287
san-d-2000 #17 Posted March 5, 2011 Just put old video games, dont put a value higher than 50 USD, and mark it as a gift
toiletunes #18 Posted March 7, 2011 just put the title of the game. nothing else. I have sent a few hundred packages abroad in the last 18 months, never have I had any problems. Depends on the game. I wouldn't do that for Dolphin or Kangaroo.
cubelindo #20 Posted March 7, 2011 I dont know where you are shipping to, but "toys" as I have read is a very bad choice as they are subject to a special tax. Books are not taxed, for example. All packages I receive from the US with "vintage games" "old computer games" and such have had no problem. All packages from the AA store for example have arrived with no customs issues. As far as I know shipping by USPS is quise safe, whereas using a private carrier like UPS, DHL, MRW and such has a very high chance to be stopped in the customs, in Spain at least. Christophero Sly #21 Posted March 7, 2011 Put the truth, like you're supposed to. If it's a video game cartridge, then put that, and accurately declare it's value.
Itchy Koala #22 Posted March 7, 2011 Hawaian Skunk They wouldn't buy it, no way can you ship a couple ounces of goods and only value it at $300.
