Region Free Dreamcast?

Recommended Posts

There is a local listing for a Dreamcast with import and US games. The guy says they all work just fine and that the system has been modded to allow imports to play. I've done some looking and so far what I see says that you can mod to a different region, but I haven't seen all regions yet... Is that possible?

Also, will a utopia boot disc work even on a none modded system?

The utopia boot disk will work for lot of games. But not all i had some games that didn't started using utopia.

But since i ordered few year ago the DC-X disk , all games what ever the region works on my European Dreamcast.

I can play U.S , Japan and European games with having modified the console , just thanks to DC-X .

Pretty sure that in the early days of the DC, you could get modchips to allow 'em to boot games from other regions. A friend had one installed.

edit: here's the installation instructions for one such chip. Search around and you'll probably find more info.

The guy acted like I had to buy it now (its been listed for a while) so I told him I wasn't interested. The package wasn't much but it did have an imported Marvel vs Capcom 2 (a game I can't seem to get anywhere else without over spending) and Guilty Gear X. I just thought it would be cool to have those two and I could sell the rest or something.

Screw it, back to "back up copies" for me.
