toptenmaterial #1 Posted March 4, 2011 Hi, I'm on the train right now playing the GBA port of the original Legend of Zelda. What's the pattern with "let's play money making game" for getting rupees? Thanks.
Emehr #3 Posted March 4, 2011 I didn't know there was a pattern. I always exit those places as soon as I realize I've stumbled into it. Whenever I wanted to make some quick cash I would head east from the start location and go around the beach killing blue tektites and brown leevers. StanJr #4 Posted March 4, 2011 Slow going if you are going to get rich quick on money making games. Far too many free rupees sources to waste time on scamming the gambling caves. Just go to the 100 free rupees holes and stock up, then hit up the lesser freebies. I never have money problems in LoZ, unless I'm deep in the second quest and need potions. godslabrat #6 Posted March 5, 2011 Level 2 is a gold mine too, I just like to get blue suited up asap. The fact that you can buy keys in this game does make money very appealing. But, as others have said, getting money is seldom a problem if you don't mind some mild grinding.
toptenmaterial #7 Posted March 5, 2011 In terms of keys, the "exit level 1 and go back to open locked door" trick gets you ahead of the 8 ball
StanJr #8 Posted March 5, 2011 considering that you can bomb almost every adjoining wall in the second labyrinth, you can come out of there about 4 keys ahead and never look back. Also, with the bow you can make a run for the Master Key right off the bat. Killing those Darknuts can be a real pain though.... Helps to have at least the blue ring and Magic Sword. Chuplayer #9 Posted March 5, 2011 Back on the NES, I swear I used telepathy to avoid the one that would take my money. I had a little routine where I would feel out the bad one, and I wouldn't pick it. It worked every time. I thought I was a psychic or something. The master key in the beginning? That's tough. I could do the book right off the bat though. A few carefully placed bombs and you're golden. I have forgotten how challenging this game is, even on the first quest. Used two potions on Level 6 last night.

I once knew a physiciatrist (old girlfriends dad, I'm not crazy..heh..heh.. ) He told me that a major sign of mental illness is people who feel they are communicating telepathically with TV or radio, I would suppose video games would fall under that catagory as well

The 6th Labyrinth is the first one that has absolutely evil difficulty. I rarely have trouble with any of the labyrinths in the first quest apart from 6 and 8. Even Death Mountain is easier than 8, if you know where you are going...
toptenmaterial #13 Posted March 6, 2011 (edited) Well, not the VERY beginning- but after beating 1 + 2 and getting the 2 container hearts that are accessible to you. 6 is such a dramatic step up in difficulty, you are right about that. It's just balls hard. 8 is rough because is wears you out, you constantly have to kill all the blue darknuts over and over again to reopen doors. And then once you are all depleted you have a fucking really hard boss fight! I have never beaten 2nd quest. Maybe this week? StanJr #14 Posted March 6, 2011 No, not at the very beginning, but all you really need is the bow (to kill the Gohma right before the key room). You don't have to beat any labyrinths first, and you can scrounge the 6 or so heart containers that you can get freely on the world map so that you can take a little more punishment from the darknuts. Also, the blue ring and magic sword really help. Go for the second quest! It is way fun and the increase in difficulty is notable. The labyrinths are torture! DickNixonArisen #15 Posted March 6, 2011 First quest is easy I think; then again, if you practice anything for twenty-odd years, I guess it would seem easy. Never really tried the second one...

But I'm serious. I hardly ever lost any money when I did my psychic routine, and I had general gambler's results when not doing it. It was weird. StanJr #19 Posted March 7, 2011 Don't I wish! Then I'd have nice things! Sadly, no he is not, but thanks to his fine comics I learned to read and developed a passion for the written word and four colored page!
