Fyrri #1 Posted March 5, 2011 I just picked up a Dreamcast the other day, and am looking for some fun games to play. Any suggestions?
Mirage #2 Posted March 5, 2011 It really sort of depends on what types of games you like, but a good general starter list of awesome games: Soul Calibur, Jet Grind Radio, Space Channel 5, Virtua Tennis (or Tennis 2K2), Vigilante 8 2nd Offense, Crazy Taxi 1 & 2. Austin #3 Posted March 5, 2011 There are so many good games on the Dreamcast, and there are plenty of genres covered, too. Like the above post said, it will depend on the genres you like, though. Some personal favorites (sticking to relatively cheap games for now asides from what was listed in the last post): Armada, House of the Dead 2, Tokyo Extreme Racer, Super Magnetic Neo, Gunbird 2, Record of Lodoss War, Elemental Gimmick Gear (E.G.G.), most of the arcade compilations (Midways, Namco, Atari), Hydro Thunder, F355 Challenge, Sonic Adventure, and plenty more. Itchy Koala #4 Posted March 5, 2011 If you don't already have Tony Hawks Pro Skater on any of your other systems, I'd recommend picking that one up.
MagitekAngel #5 Posted March 6, 2011 I'll tell you what's not one of my favorite Dreamcast games: Sega Bass Fishing. The fuck did Sega put that one in the 360 compilation for? I don't know anything about prices, so I'll just list some of my favorite games indiscriminately. Power Stone 2 Skies of Arcadia Phantasy Star Online Sonic Adventure 2 Crazy Taxi Crazy Taxi 2 Chu Chu Rocket Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Plasma Sword San Fransisco Rush 2049 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 Rayman 2 StarLancer
SRGilbert #6 Posted March 6, 2011 Demolition Racer: No Exit Wetrix Hydro Thunder House of the Dead 2 (gotta get a gun, or even better 2 guns!)
Arkhan #7 Posted March 6, 2011 Every dreamcast game is good! I like Timestalkers, HotD2, Elemental Gimmick Gear, Sonic Adventure, Ecco, Jet Grind Radio, Illbleed, Slave Zero, Quake 3, and Carrier
Rex Dart #8 Posted March 7, 2011 All that crap up there, plus Spider-Man. Good system to play Gauntlet on, too. Rival Schools - Project Justice rocks. Street Fighter 3 Double Impact (before they ruined the voices, music, and controls).
Metal Ghost #9 Posted March 7, 2011 Kudos for Skies of Acadia being listed above....I loved that game. MDK2 is fun, although apparently I simply can no longer play any game where you're expected to aim without a 2nd analog stick. Funny how that eventually became the case for me. Rex Dart #10 Posted March 7, 2011 Kudos for Skies of Acadia being listed above....I loved that game. Ditto TXR(2), Magnetic Neo, Gunbird 2. Gunbird's an amazingly fun (but also amazingly short) vertical shooter. I'll never know why they didn't put their gay european samurai in a Vs Capcom game. Shmups like "Gunbird 2" seem too short if you use continues. The fun is seeing how far you can get, and how many points you can earn, with only three lives. I think "DoDonPachi" is my favorite of these kinds of games because it is somewhat more forgiving and hence more playable. I once managed to reach the fourth level without using continues. However, you would have to be a Shmup God to complete all of the insane requirements for beating the game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DoDonPachi#Areas Edited March 7, 2011 by mbd30
Reaperman #12 Posted March 7, 2011 (edited) There's been no mention of Grandia II yet, so I'll throw it in the ring. It's my favorite dreamcast game, and one of my favorite RPG's. Others to round out a top 5: SF Rush 2049 Airforce Delta Sega GT Capcom vs SNK 2 Edited March 7, 2011 by Reaperman
Austin #13 Posted March 7, 2011 The Dreamcast is one of the few systems I can think of with a really consistent library. Even a lot of the mediocre and "poor" titles can be mildly enjoyable.
Petran79 #14 Posted March 7, 2011 Dreamcast's Pro Pinball is till now the best virtual pinball game i came across in any console.
Rex Dart #15 Posted March 7, 2011 Wait, did anybody say Tech Romancer? Really, every fighting game on this system rocks. Tech Romancer just rocks with giant frickin' robots.

Rex Dart #17 Posted March 8, 2011 I'm with you there. If Sega announced a new console, I'd pre-order it immediately, and I've never pre-ordered a system before.
zylon #18 Posted March 12, 2011 I'm with you there. If Sega announced a new console, I'd pre-order it immediately, and I've never pre-ordered a system before. Same here. I've owned/bought each Sega when they came out and I've enjoyed them for many years. I skipped all the add-ons though. Back on topic: I bought the DC for primarily one game at first- Demolition Racer. Other goodies include: Soldier of Fortune(really slow loading), Mars Matrix, Giga Wing 1&2, Gauntlet Legends, Death Crimson Ox, House of the Dead 2, Silent Scope, Sword of the Berserk. Not to mention the Homebrew scene and emulators.
Austin #19 Posted March 12, 2011 To my surprise, in Dreamcast discussions lately, I've been hearing quite a few people mention Demolition Racer. I've never played it and will have to check it out since new copies can still be had for about $5.

It's far better than the PSX version and quite honestly, it's the only title I sought out in the store when I bought the system. I even bought a spare of the game last year. It's far better than the PSX version and quite honestly, it's the only title I sought out in the store when I bought the system. I even bought a spare of the game last year. That one was a bit of a surprise for me, too. I picked it up a few years ago and I love it to death. Near the end advancing starts to depend more on luck than anything else so I lost interest, but I put in a good 15+ hours of awesome good gaming before I got there. It's kind of weird - the graphics aren't anything special, the music is forgettable at best, but I couldn't put it down. It was so much fun. Others for me are Alien Front Online, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (probably best version since it's the best system that it was released for, I think), and if you don't mind playing with a retro roster, the NFL/NBA games are top notch. Crazy Taxi is also good, though a bit shallow (showing it's coin-op roots).
