Gregory DG #1 Posted December 17, 2002 Wife says they're going to talk about Atari... Maybe not tonight (Dec.16) but maybe tomorrow or the next night? http://www.vh1.com/shows/dyn/i_love_the_80...0s/series.jhtml
Gregory DG #2 Posted December 17, 2002 Er... Or tonight... I think the Atari stuff will be in 1981... Recording now. Hopefully I'll have a video for you to D/L over at TAT later.

Gregory DG #4 Posted December 17, 2002 Ok, the Atari segment happens about 51 minutes into the 1981 show. It's right after the Member's Only Jacket and right before The Jeffersons. I'll let you know when I have a video ready!
Gregory DG #5 Posted December 17, 2002 Ok. I've got it in .avi format for you. The download is about 6.5 meg. (I could have used a better compressor or Quicktime, but I'm too lazy to do it.) http://www.ataritimes.com/atari_80s.zip Enjoy!
Cupcakus #6 Posted December 17, 2002 Cool segment... I wish it was longer... bastards...
Gregory DG #7 Posted December 17, 2002 Cool segment... I wish it was longer... bastards... Actually, I'm surprised it was as long as it was. They had a lot of stupid fads to cover in that show. Some of them didn't even get 30 seconds!
Lemmi #8 Posted December 17, 2002 whew i thought i wouldnt be able to save that zip file, cause i am not waiting for a 6.5mb file to download at 4.82kb/sec but now its going at 82.4kb/sec whew
Lemmi #9 Posted December 17, 2002 hahah all the young ones saying the graphics sucked on atari and the last part "i had the high score going on defender and my sister made me turn it off to watch Solid Gold" hahahahahahahaha
Lemmi #10 Posted December 17, 2002 hahaha ok they just showed a clip of the white snake video (1987) with Tawny Kitaen, where shes leaning out the window of a car and her nipple comes out and 2 guys are forwarding and reversing it over and over trying to see it, and they go man this isnt even the right version whats even worse is that me and some friends did the same thing back then, and last month i was going though all my old boxed VCR tapes and i still have it on tape
Lemmi #11 Posted December 17, 2002 Hey Greg, can you pull the Mattel electronics handheld football clip from the 1980's hour? it happens between the 45min and 50 min time, they said more favorable things about that then the 2600 .. its almost 1 min long thats if you have that part recorded EDIT- oh and avi format is fine, actually whichever is easiest for you
Cupcakus #12 Posted December 17, 2002 If someone could just put that Howard Scott Warshaw commercial in .AVI format, we'd be all set!

joeybastard #14 Posted December 17, 2002 I saw that show last night. It annoys me when people say the graphics suck on the VCS. Yes some of the graphics suck. What I don't understand though is what people expected. When you play a boardgame, no one complains when their gamepiece doesn't look like them. I've never heard somebody say I won't play Monopoly because I don't look like a shoe or a car or a tophat. Games of all types have traditionally used symbols of the player on the board. I see no difference in videogames. Considering the limitations of the hardware at the time, I think many of the videographics are quite good. It especially annoys me when dumbass vague celebrities(Who were most of those people? I recognized the Sugar Ray Guy and like 1 or 2 others.) make comments about my beloved Stella. Gregory DG #15 Posted December 17, 2002 Hey Greg, can you pull the Mattel electronics handheld football clip from the 1980's hour? it happens between the 45min and 50 min time, they said more favorable things about that then the 2600 .. its almost 1 min long thats if you have that part recorded I was on a quest to get the Atari segment... Didn't think anyone would care about the football game, so I didn't get it. Sorry!
Gregory DG #16 Posted December 17, 2002 It especially annoys me when dumbass vague celebrities(Who were most of those people? I recognized the Sugar Ray Guy and like 1 or 2 others.) make comments about my beloved Stella. Hehehhe... My wife went to High School with one of them. That blonde woman with the lucious lips... Can't think of her name though. I looked her up on IMDb and her list of work was unimpressive to say the least. My wife was so excited about it. And I said, "So? You grew up in Tallahasse. You'd expect to see a celebrity from a city with a good sized population once in awhile. Try finding a celebrity from Lake Wales, FL and then I'll be impressed!" cimerians #17 Posted December 17, 2002 Joey has a good point. Symbolism rather than true-to-life graphics were the only choices programmers had. Yes the graphics were bad but that was to be expected back then.
MrRetroGamer #18 Posted December 17, 2002 Looking back 20+ years, we can sit here and say the graphics were bad, but back then you didn't have X-Box or PS2 to compare it to, so I say the graphics were pretty decent for the times.
