gooch3008 #1 Posted March 14, 2011 I have had a Super Nintendo and a PS2 (original model) on craigslist for 2 weeks now with lowering prices, and only 2 texts that didnt follow up. I started them at $35 apiece but now I have them up for $15 apiece and STILL no bites....what is going on here!?
Rockin' Kat #2 Posted March 14, 2011 Your problem is that you're selling them on craigslist instead of here in the marketplace. I only go to craigslist for really super big heavy things that I don't think are nice enough to get people to drop the cash on shipping... like an Amiga 2000 that smelled of cigarette smoke which I sold for $40 on craigslist. Austin #4 Posted March 14, 2011 I think the problem is your area. Up here in Fairfax, just a few weeks ago I sold a VB, Jaguar, NES and a 2600 in the matter of a day or two, all at decent values (comparable to what I could have gotten online).
gooch3008 #5 Posted March 14, 2011 The last SNES I sold, I put up for $50 with pilotwings and some crappy NBA game and it sold less than 15 minutes after it appeared on craigslist. It's so weird.
nathanallan #6 Posted March 14, 2011 Craigslist is a weird selling place. Why not sell it on here or another forum? Cheapassgamer is a good one, not as good as atariage, though. Kat's right, you gotta hit up the real gamer crowds, not shoot in the dark like on a thing like CL. When I was selling, I always offered here or gamegavel first. Kind of a personal rule. Itchy Koala #7 Posted March 14, 2011 I can't get anyone on craigslist to return my emails. It's like they forget they're trying to sell me something.
Crazy Climber #8 Posted March 14, 2011 I just sold a SNES system in the market place for $35 shipped and it took about 5 min to sell.
+save2600 #9 Posted March 14, 2011 I can't get anyone on craigslist to return my emails. It's like they forget they're trying to sell me something. That's largely been my experience too. Buyers flaking out and not returning calls or e-mails are as common as dirt as well. It's what I've come to expect from CL dealings which is why I rarely ever bother anymore. I rarely ever sell on craigslist, only buy. But if I were to sell I would check my texts and emails because I intend on selling something. But yesterday I emailed a guy with interest on an immaculate asteroids arcade (three minutes after it was posted) and no reply. If I werent on my iPhone I would add an angry face to this. Don't worry, guy is probably doing you a favor. I bet the Asteroids is hardly in "immaculate" condition. What's the acrylic bezel look like? Unless it's a brand new repro, no way can it be "immaculate". People scratched the shit out of those things with glass cleaner and paper towels. How's the inner artwork cardboard bezel? Unless it's a repro, I bet it's yellowed, faded, warped and has tape on it from sumguy's shitty repair job. How's the marquee? Stickers on it left over from an auction or city licenses? Marquee is probably all scratched to hell as well thanks to people taking glass cleaner and paper towels to 'em. Side art not all scratched up? T-molding not all dinged and chewed up? Control panel "immaculate"? Doubt it. Unless it's a vinyl repro, wanna bet there's missing paint and/or metal & rust showing from peoples funky hands playing it all these years? White buttons not yellowed? Aluminum start buttons look like new? Oh and then there's the X-Y monitor. Immaculate huh? Absolutely no screen burn in? Contrast and brightness okay? No dot burned into the middle of the screen? How about the coin door? It's not all rusted, dented, dinged or scratched? How about the rest of the cabinet? Nobody ever smoked near it? Hasn't had one of its sides facing a window where the sun was allowed to fade and dry out the cab and its artwork? "Immaculate"... Unless this machine was put away shortly after it was assembled and/or sparingly played all these years, or refurbished by someone competent enough - guy may as well just use the term "minty". There's another red flag qualifier for 'ya! Oh and here you are... -edit- False alarm! CL guy never claimed his machine was immaculate. At least from his description.
Itchy Koala #12 Posted March 14, 2011 Thank you for lending me the emoticon haha, and for 295 I'd give it a whirl!
+save2600 #13 Posted March 14, 2011 Thank you for lending me the emoticon haha, and for 295 I'd give it a whirl! No prob and no extra charge for the rant of qualifiers! @$295... yeah, it's definitely worth a look. Hopefully it's in 'good' shape for that price. Let us know what you find if you can ever get the guy to commit. There's lots of repro parts currently being made for Asteroids, so if you end up having to sink a little money into her at that price, no big whoop! Hopefully the monitor is in great shape too. Extremely rare to find one with no screen burn or other issues.
Itchy Koala #14 Posted March 14, 2011 Screen burn is pretty much the only thing I have to check on (and probably the reason he didn't message me back with better pictures). Give it a look http://omaha.craigslist.org/vgm/2263363837.html
+save2600 #15 Posted March 14, 2011 Screen burn is pretty much the only thing I have to check on (and probably the reason he didn't message me back with better pictures). Give it a look http://omaha.craigsl...2263363837.html ...hey wait! The guy didn't describe his machine as being in immaculate condition! Says 'good' and from a smoke and pet free home. YOU supplanted your own projection of what you'd like the machine to be for $295. I see how you are. Seriously, this looks to be a good, if not great deal. Gotta see it with your own eyes though. If he's relatively local to you, I wouldn't have wasted your and his time asking for better pics. Not at that price.
Itchy Koala #16 Posted March 14, 2011 I had to give it some pizazz, nobody wants to talk about a 'good' arcade! I think I'll take your advice and tell him I want to see it in person.
Hatta #17 Posted March 14, 2011 Wow, I check Omaha CL daily and missed that. If I had a little more cash on hand you'd have some competition.
Itchy Koala #18 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Well no worries he hasn't answered back. Omaha craigslist seems to be more popular than I thought, I hate competing for games in the classifieds. A_Locomotive #19 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) I can't get anyone on craigslist to return my emails. It's like they forget they're trying to sell me something. That's largely been my experience too. Buyers flaking out and not returning calls or e-mails are as common as dirt as well. It's what I've come to expect from CL dealings which is why I rarely ever bother anymore. I've been trying to sell an antique treadle powered sewing machine on craigslist for the last 2 years and I've had only had a few people show interest. One of them seemingly wanted it badly. A lady who sent me an email begging me to hold it for her saying she would beat anyone else's offer was going to rent a truck and come down and pick it up(can't remember her city but it was a few hundred miles away) the following weekend, she sent me tons of emails and really seemed to want it then a few days before she was supposed to come get it I never heard from her again. Sellers also seem to flake fairly regularly as well. I've emailed countless sellers requesting more info or to try and arrange a time to meet up and more often then not I never hear from them at all or they answer one email and thats it. Like right now a local guy has a Virtual Boy listed with a bunch of games and I sent an email asking what games he has for it, 5 days later and he still hasn't responded and still has it listed. SRGilbert #20 Posted March 16, 2011 I do pretty well on CL, hell I've sold over $700 worth since Feb 1st alone, and that was just 12 different systems. Not huge money, but considering pretty much everything was from yard sales and flea markets over the past summer, it's a pretty good margin. Plus, it more than pays for what ever I'll pick up this year. I'd say the biggest thing is about what games you bundle with it more than anything else. There doesn't seem to be any exact strategy to it though. Sometimes I'll post extremely detail listings and get no interest. Then I'll pull it for a few weeks, repost the same lot for the same price with almost NO details, and a really bad pic, and it will sell in a day or two. I have thought about selling in the AA Marketplace, but it's so easy to just throw it up on CL, meet someone in a BK parking lot, and bam! cash in hand. (Wait, that doesn't sound right.......) Plus, a lot of the stuff I end up selling is pretty common items, things I assume anyone on here would already have. Probably a big assumption though! What I hate are the ones that "really want" the items, but can't meet you until the next weekend. I started putting a note in my listings basically saying, if you can't buy it within 48 hours of your email, don't bother. Truth is, it's worked and I have a lot less BS because of it. +jd_1138 #22 Posted March 18, 2011 (edited) wow, no bites at 15 each?!?! I'd snap those up fast at 15 each. Must be a bunch of weirdos in that area. Not you, of course. I'd put them here on the marketplace, maybe a package deal, to save someone on shipping. be easier to justify paying shipping, if someone were to buy both of those off ya. shipping might be 15 or so.
