FastRobPlus #1 Posted March 14, 2011 We had about 30 folks show up for our retro gaming meet up this Saturday. Growing slowly but surely. It was a blast for me because it recalled the “good old days” of user groups. Everyone brought their “best” system or pet projects, and games were bought, sold, swapped and given away. I post this here on AtariAge because it’s classic computing related, and because it makes me wonder how I can grow a retro gaming club or org locally. Cool stuff: I brought my early ’85 Amiga 1000 and had it totally up and running with the Hurricane, Pal Jr, and Rejuvenator. Someone has a Famicom disk drive system. Two nice Vectrex on display. Fairchild F and VideoBrain Got to see a truly new condition C128, C64, Atari 800, Atari 1200XL, Amiga 1200, Atari VCS, Sega Master system w/3D, and several others. It was really amazing to see so many systems, peripherals and monitors all in their original early 80’s condition. We had a high score completion and Yoomp! was the game played. We had a head to head completion toward the end as folks were packing up and played

Metal Ghost #4 Posted March 14, 2011 Very cool! Now were these mostly work folks you know? If not, did you put out an event thread on forums to drum up interest, or how exactly did you get these 30 folks to engage in this?
iswitt #5 Posted March 14, 2011 Once a year we do a vintage gaming program at my library. Teens love it. They are so enthralled by those old, obscure (to them) consoles and ancient looking games. Always draws a crowd.

It gets a lot of daily activity.

Do you work at the library or is this an event that you coordinate and the library is just the venue?

I really wish I worked with people interested in retro gaming, though your place of employment certainly lends to the liklihood of people being interested On the bright side, during the 5 hour drive on a recent trip to our plant in Cleveland I had the last Retro Gaming Roundup podcast playing and our IT guy in the car. I think it re-kindled an interest in gaming, which was very cool to see.

It's the busiest library in KY, so there's lots of people who game around here.
