+wood_jl #26 Posted March 30, 2011 Any of those racing games where - when losing control - you can definitely tell that the game goes into some little canned animation sequence of your car spinning out/wrecking (no real physics here) that you see over and over again. Makes the game unplayable.
A_Locomotive #27 Posted March 30, 2011 Character customization in single player only games. Not that I hate it really, but why does it have to be so damn in depth? Because its hilarious to play the game with a character that looks like this. Achievements or trophies that only 2% of the world will ever get. I know you should get something for completing the entire game without taking a point of damage, but is anyone actually going to do it? Why spend your time programming something people just can't really do? Again, it makes no difference in game play, but it would be cool if I could complete all the challenges. There is an achievement in Trials HD I'll bet not more then 100 people in the world have. Whats the point? Alternatively what really bugs me is when there is no achievement for accomplishing something that is extraordinarily difficult. I can't think of any specific examples but when it happens it irritates the crap out of me.
Cynicaster #28 Posted March 30, 2011 Regarding achievements, I find the opposite annoying: trophies for super simple things that any moron with a pulse could do without even realizing it. Like "You've earned a trophy for taking 10 steps to the left!" It's like, knock it off already. It makes me feel like the chubby non-athletic kid on track and field day getting a "participation" ribbon.
Video #29 Posted March 31, 2011 Trophies/awards in general. The uber hard ones annoy me cause almost nobody will get them anyways (and their typically for dumb schit that nobody cares about either) and the uber easy ones are just pointless ("you turned your console on, yay, your not a complete moron") Animals in games that can't do what that animal should be able to do (birds that can't fly, frogs/turntles that can't swin, etc) Like when frogger dies, at least say it's cause the stuff is acid, instead of water, something. BG stuff that can't be interacted with, like a ladder that cant be climed, or worse, BG stuff that can be interacted with, like the 1 pixel bump that you can't walk across. Rubber band race cars. I can see a need for these for the kids, but comeon, this should always be an "opt out" thing, or simply not in the game to begin with.
Petran79 #30 Posted March 31, 2011 Plenty of the above points annoy me as well, but I have another one to add, although this applies more to today's games: Texts printed in tiny little fonts, like dialogs or status updates at the bottom of the TV screen. It's like the programmers couldn't fathom that we'd be sitting some distance away from our TVs and that not all of us have 20-20 vision. I've seen this in some PC games as well. This occurs with a lot of ps3 games. Eg Dead Space is very tiring to play on an scart tv due to this. As if sony and publishers said: either buy a digital hd tv or screw you
