ClausB #1 Posted March 23, 2011 Which PC analog joysticks work with a 5200 Y-adapter and are easily available?
bohoki #2 Posted March 23, 2011 you mean a home made"pc adapter y cable" because none will work with the standard "pc y cable" or the wico y cable you can check this thread http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/172971-jsut-made-another-batch-of-pc-to-5200-adapters here are a couple rules of thumb if it has calibration adjusters it should if it only has 2 buttons it should if it is a gamepad that only has 2-6 buttons it should work if it is suncom with autofire it will only work if you cut pin one on the 555 chip because some autofire circuits draw too much power from the 5200 my favorites are the original gravis pc gamepad the red button gravis joystick the piranha pad this one looks really keen and i bet it works fine eBay Auction -- Item Number: 290547696480 here is a lot that will work "instant collection" eBay Auction -- Item Number: 250791961188 ebay is good but with most good deals shipping kills
0078265317 #3 Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) I got these 3 off ebay. Do you think those will work. And your adapter converts digital to atari 5200. But if the controllers are all analog why won't they work straight without an adapter. Edited March 23, 2011 by 0078265317
bohoki #4 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) unknown i have not had those controllers the white gravis may have a dos switch you will want it in dos mode the adapter fools the 5200 into thinking there is 500k analog movment vs the 100k a pc joystick provides also the pccontroller has a 15 pin male on the end wired to its patten on the top row the 5200 wants the controller movements in a 15 pin female wired in the bottom row Edited March 24, 2011 by bohoki
ClausB #5 Posted March 24, 2011 Thanks for the advice. However I just won two original controllers, so I'll try them first. Wish me luck!
0078265317 #6 Posted March 24, 2011 unknown i have not had those controllers the white gravis may have a dos switch you will want it in dos mode the adapter fools the 5200 into thinking there is 500k analog movment vs the 100k a pc joystick provides also the pccontroller has a 15 pin male on the end wired to its patten on the top row the 5200 wants the controller movements in a 15 pin female wired in the bottom row I didn't know about the 100-500 thing. But the gravis does not have a switch. It does however have both 15 pin male and female so I can plug that into the 5200. Or I can use gender changers for the rest but the ones I got don't work. Must be the first thing you mentioned 100 - 500. Makes sense now, thanks.
ClausB #7 Posted March 30, 2011 Got the 5200 controllers. Sticks worked but some keys did not. Opened one up and ohmed out the keypad and found that 2 of the 3 gray conductive stripes (on top of flex circuit) were broken. Taped a thin wire on top of each stripe and now all keys work. Yay! Played 5200 Star Raiders for the first time (have played on 800 for 30 years). I like it.
svenski #8 Posted April 1, 2011 Star Raiders does rock on the 5200 - analog controllers really do the game justice
