Should Team Pixelboy publish Star Force?

  1. 1. Should Team Pixelboy publish Star Force (SG-1000 port)?

    • I would buy the game as it is now, I don't mind the high difficulty of the game.
    • I would accept paying a few dollars more, if it means having a better-balanced game.
    • I will not buy this game if you release it, regardless of the game's difficulty, it's not my type of game anyway.

I would love to see Star Force on Colecovision. And the difficulty is not a problem. Star Force is for great "shoot'em uppers" who love Caravan Stage and love the PcEngine shootings! Trials/errors, etc.

But I completely understand to make a more praticable Star Force version on CV. Perhaps a selecting difficulty will be a good thing and add a special ending for the players that are good enough to beat the game in hard mode?

It could be great to add some variants in comparison with the original version, to add to the CV program an additional value, in order to keep the interest? It could be just a time attack mode, an extra-level, etc.

To summarize, be sure I'll by this game. Shoot'em up are my favourite genre!

As I said in the first post of this thread, there are only around 40 bytes of free space left in the ported Star Force ROM file, so there's no room to implement the kind of feature you are proposing.

I asked Eduardo to look into accelerating the movement of the player's ship. While this measure may not exactly result in an easier game, it may give the player more of a fighting chance, and maybe this is all that is needed to make this game more fun to play. I won't know for sure until I have tried it, and Eduardo said he wants to complete the other ports on the to-do list before going back to do alterations.

Once I've been able to try the acceleration tweak, I'll let you guys know the results.

OK,

I finally made some test for Pixelboy with Star Force

I tested both NES version and the Sg-1000 versions.....

In this SG-1000 conversion, the spaceship move slowly compared to the NES version wich makes things alot difficult...

Another thing is in the NES version the screen is wider wich make things "more" easy

My suggestion is, make the SpaceShip move a bit faster and I'm sure it'll imrpove the playabality

So, I stand corrected, this SG-1000 conversion is TOUGH!

In the video there, it doesn't look like more bullets than is reasonable for a modern shooter. Since he never dies, I can't evaluate the hitbox, but on modern bullet-hell shooters, the hit box is often much smaller than the visible ship.

Reducing the size of the hit box for the player would be a very simple tweak code-wise and take no more space in ROM or RAM, while making the game a little easier. :)

It looks very impressive!

I just came across the following footage of the arcade version. If you look carefully, you'll see that while the SG-1000 version is pretty faithful to the original arcade game (where graphics, sounds and enemy behavior are concerned) the player's ship actually moves around the screen faster in the arcade version.

So that pretty much settles it: I will definately publish this game, but not before Eduardo doubles the moving speed of the player's ship. It should only be a minor adjustment, so I'm not worried.

Now I just need to add Star Force to the Team Pixelboy web site... ;)

Glad to hear your going to have Eduardo increase the player's ship speed. The game is just too difficult as is. :x

The modified version should be more faithful to the arcade and a lot of fun to play. :)
