classic arcade games for Colecovision

Recommended Posts

Hi

I see a general interest to see ported by homebrewers and supporters arcade games of the post-crash era for the Colecovision.

About me, if (43 y.o.) I love this console is because remind me to good old times and see no reason to play carts that would have never been released during the years 1982 - 1985.

Colecovision died 1984 ( or 1985 if we consider the last sales ) so we have to accept the fact we have now extremely good homebrewers that could give us NOW the games that 30 years ago we only had possibility to play on the terrible 2600 or similar machines.

Pls check JUNO FIRST homebrew for 2600. Great. Why not same game for Colecovision ? and Moon Cresta ? Ozma Wars ? Bosconian ? MegaZone ? SuperTank (2 players) ?

I kindly invite all Colecovision programmers to only release arcade games appeared 197? to 1984.

Would also appreciate some Colecovision translations of the few but very good arcades ported to the VECTREX and would like to play Utopia and Space Battle Intellivision for Colecovision with new graphics and options and the 2 players option.

A bad idea ?

Max

Bosconian should be theoretically not too difficult as it was ported to the MSX with similar hardware.

I would love to have that

How about port arcade games that could make good use of the super action controller? Hey, 4 buttons + keypad + roller thingamajig. Would beat using the keypad for additional fire buttons.

the Super Action Controllers were so cool and had a lot of expectations on them..it was 1983.

End of same year I had them and found them the most stupid add-on never conceived for a console. But may be I am wrong and my idea based on the terrible games made specifically for them. Who knows. Anyway I think no Opcode, Pixelboy, Collectorvision or others never will spend time on those Goldrake gloves...

As for me, I truly hate the SA Controllers

If I were going to use other controller(s) other than the standart one, I'll use Exp Module #2 or the Roller Controller

Bubbles would be cool.

I don't break out the Super Action Controllers often so I can't say for sure if Sinistar would work well with those. Definitely not with the stock controllers. Sinistar worked well on the 5200 with the stock controllers.

No disrespect intended to the OP, but I completely disagree with the premise of this post. I reject the idea that "since the Colecovision died in 1985, we should therefore keep it dead after 1985, with the exception of unreleased pre-1985 games".

I say, if we have the power to go back and "re-write" history, making a bunch of games that were never released on the Colecovision suddenly available (albeit years later), WHY NOT go one step further (as long as we are re-writing history), and extend the life of the Colecovision beyond 1985? Because the Colecovision SHOULD have been supported into the late 1980's (actually, it WAS by Telegames..)

Besides, it's clear the Colecovision is not dead, even in 2011.

yes, why not ?

I am also ready to play and to buy any new game released for Colecovision.

Point is :

in 1985 (japanese 8 bit consoles apart) Colecovision still was the right console to play arcade conversions. But to play NATO COMMANDER or CRUSADE IN EUROPE (Commodore64) R-TYPE (PcEngine) SIMCITY (SNES) or DOOM (N64) or LOST PLANET (Xbox360) it is clear it would be a nonsense for homebrewers to realize a Colecovision translation.

Better at this point if, as we all hope, a "Colecovision 2" standard is defined and accepted by all homebrewers and we all support them buying all new games.

point for me is another, having all consoles in my collection. I am 43 now but when play Colecovision I am again 16 and always hope to see in the shelves the conversion of JUNO FIRST or of other games of the time. For same reason when want to play OutRun i play it to the Sega Sg1000 or the Master System.

Anyway, I repeat, all new games are welcome but we cannot ask too much to homebrewers.

Concerning Telegames UK) I was their good customer in the late 80's and they always told me : we sell Colecovision games and give assistance, we do not produce them.

Well... TeleGames did produce one game for the ColecoVision. It was Skiing and I'm pretty sure it was programmed by Terry Grantham, who was running TeleGames USA and was involved earlier with, if memory serves me right, Sunrise Software, before they folded up. :D

OutRun on SG1000 ??? Where i can see that??? I know the master system version but never heard about a SG1000 version.

OutRun on colecovision using Driving Module is one of my project i'm working on , if a SG 1000 version exists i would be extremly curious to see what they achieved. :lust:

#edit : ok i think you are talking about Outrun on SG1000 MARK III (which is the Master System in europe).

There is no outrun on original SG1000.

I would love to see a home port of Williams' Make Trax, and CV would be the perfect console for it.

Also, why not:

I, Robot

Black Widow

Gaplus

OH, yes, I agree with you that they shouldn't try to do "Halo" or "Mortal Kombat" on the Colecovision. But I also think that the Colecovision should have survived a few more years (until at least 1989), and that there are many NES games that came out post 1985 that the Colecovision could have handled just fine.
