Third Age #1 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Here are some screenshot gifs and wallpaper pngs I made from them, with more yet to follow. Each gif is normally 320x200. Each png is normally 2560x1600 including screen border / 1600x1200 excluding border. There will be exceptions, as evidenced with these images. +wood_jl #3 Posted March 30, 2011 (edited) This makes me want to see the original slideshow disks that went around the dealers in 1985. Remember those? Here are a couple of pics from them, but I can never find the original slideshow. If I recall correctly, this train was a GTIA conversion from the 8-bit. This was pretty cool computer art from 1985. There was one slideshow that had these, and a picture of a wave in the stormy sea, etc. Man, this stuff takes me back. There was a digitized monochrome show, that showed some of the Atari people and Jack Tramiel in it. Also, where are the cool Spectrum 512 shows I remember seeing? I've been away from the ST scene for a long, long time. Edited March 30, 2011 by wood_jl

That's the one! This (and the other pics) in the slideshow were so impressive to people used to 160x192 in 4 colors.
Third Age #6 Posted March 31, 2011 ... That's the one! This (and the other pics) in the slideshow were so impressive to people used to 160x192 in 4 colors. I wonder how many Atari 400 owners were used to 160x96 in 4 colors? I also wonder how often programs made use of graphics mode 3 (40x24 in 4 colors)? Third Age #7 Posted March 31, 2011 On page 57 of the February 1986 issue of Antic magazine, there was an article about a D.E.G.A.S. art contest. It includes 4 photos of artwork: ORANGES, by Tom Hudson (320x200 16 colors or 640x200 4 colors) MOUNTAIN, by Tom Hudson (640x400 b&w) HALLOWEEN, by Jack Powell (320x200 16 colors) MR. X, by Dean Motter (320x200 16 colors) I was able to find the original images of MOUNTAIN and MR. X, but not the other two. Therefore, I decided to try and restore them from scratch. ORANGES - magazine scan: ORANGES - restored: HALLOWEEN - magazine scan: HALLOWEEN - restored: The gifs appear squashed, but that's because ST pixels are 10:12, 5:12 and 5:6 in size/shape ratios. Whenever I make wallpapers of them, I take that into account during the resize operations.

Third Age #9 Posted April 8, 2011 It's amazing what can be done with limited colors. I tried a painting tutorial from an issue of Atari Explorer magazine. The result is a 320x200 16-color image called Morning Star. oky2000 #12 Posted May 21, 2011 Oooh nice. I did some ST pics at work (where they are now) for International Karate (not IK+ with Archer Mclean's shitty C64 stickmen lol) and the loading screen for Magnetic Scrolls The Pawn (512 colour box art scan). I thought might aswell because I was doing C64 stuff and it is the same resolution for hi-res C64 and lo-res ST I will post them on Monday with a few others (my template for the scanlines and phospor dots is on my work PC still) What I would love is all the original ST pics from the user groups/PD compilations. You know the 16 colour lo-res ones of the horses, the rose, the porsche and a few with colour cycling like the demon with animated candles etc.
