HatefulGravey #1 Posted March 31, 2011 A few months ago I posted about the local store in my area going nuts with the people that work their snatching all the good stuff up before anyone else gets the chance to buy anything. I looked for the thread but I hate the way forum searches work sometimes and I lost interest in linking to it. I'll find it later. The other day I stopped back by just to see if maybe things had gotten better. I have a hard time being an ass to people really so I can't just not deal with them, I have to forgive and be willing to make a deal with them. Its actually something I love to hate about myself. Anyway, as I walked in they asked if there was something they could help me with. It was a new guy I had never seen before so I told him "sure, get me a lynx". He said "I'm sorry we don't have one" and then called someone, and got me one! Now I have to stop by there after work today and work out a deal with this person but the store hooked me up with them and is going to let me buy from that person. They could buy the lynx and make me buy it from them, but no, they are letting me deal with the person directly. I have to say that is the best customer service I've ever seen in this kind of place. So the best and worst customer service from the same place, but I have to say this has me thinking hard about getting back on their side of things. If this works out like it should, mainly them letting me deal with this person directly, then I'm certainly back in their customer base. Anyone else seen this level of service in a classic gaming store? SlowCoder #3 Posted April 3, 2011 When I was big into RC racing, we had a shop here that had an area set up for customers to sell their used things. As far as I know the shop didn't make any money doing this, but I'm sure it was an excellent way to instill faith and loyalty in their customers, thereby keeping them coming back to the store. I, for one, spent lots of money in there.
+bennybingo #4 Posted April 3, 2011 I live in NJ, right near Digital Press, and I have to say that they are incredible when it comes to customer service. Once a month, they host a NAVA (North Atlantic Video-game Aficionados) meet-up, and allow gamers to show up and sell/trade whatever they want. This is a FREE service, and is designed specifically for the benefit of the collector's market. http://www.digitpress.com/nava.htm I can speak only for myself, but this type of customer appreciation makes me loyal to Digital Press in a much more endearing way. I care about the store staying in business, much the way the owner (Joe) cares about the collectors and the hobby in general. I now will only buy my modern console games there, even if it means paying a little extra for the newer Xbox releases. I don't care about saving $5 or $10, if it means giving it to the loyal person. Game Stop, shows none of this type loyalty. They just want to keep me spending like the rest of us. Additionally, I always try to buy some of the classic gaming gems he has for sale. It has become a huge part of my collecting routine. +1 to all the local classic gaming stores who actually "get it"!
HatefulGravey #5 Posted April 4, 2011 Just to fill in as I posted the results in another thread because this one seems to get no attention at the time I did get the Lynx and 8 games in a nice case. The game store didn't make my buy it through them, but I did get the impression this was just a friend of one of the workers there and not just another collector. That doesn't make a difference in the big picture, but it was something I noticed. This has won me over back to being ok with them. I made a comment about something I wanted and they got it for me. Pretty sweet.
chrisbid #6 Posted April 4, 2011 (edited) you cant judge a store or a chain by a single employee. you have to judge the individual employees and/or owners. this even goes for gamestop. in general, gamestop is a mediocre chain, but if you know a great GS employee, then you have a great 'in' for freebies and deals and what not.
