SlowCoder #1 Posted April 1, 2011 So I made a somewhat bold maneuver today. I decided to send an email to my entire office telling people to look around their homes for old game consoles they no longer play. Told them I may be willing to throw money at them if they had anything I wanted to buy. I was asking for the old stuff like the Atari, Coleco, Intellivision, Sega and Nintendo. To my surprise, someone responded to me and said they would bring a Nintendo Donkey Kong Jr. mini tabletop game. This wasn't exactly what I was thinking about, but I figured, heck, I wouldn't mind tossing a couple of these little creatures in my collection. Even after I offered to pay, they just want to give it to me. I hadn't even researched these mini tabletop games because they just weren't on my list. Well, I get home today, and I'm doing some research. I noted she specifically said "Nintendo" and "Donkey Kong Jr". Here's what I've found on the Internet: http://www.miniarcade.com/nintendo/dkjr-tt.htm I think this is a neat looking little game. Anyone have this? How do you like it? She also mentioned she has Galaga, but didn't exactly offer that up to me.
BrianC #2 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) I have both the tabletop and the panorama handheld version. The game is quite a bit of fun, though it's different from the arcade game (Donkey Kong II and the different b/w handheld are closer in feel). Sound is pretty good too. The game is in color, but not VFD. There's a white panel at the top where light comes through. The panorama handheld works the same way. I like the handheld better since it uses a NES style d-pad instead of a small stick, but the stick works too. This is also one of the games that isn't in any of the Game & Watch ports to GB, GBC, GBA, or DS (though a different DK Jr. handheld is). the-topdog #3 Posted April 3, 2011 This is a pretty fun game with the multi-color VFD and is surprisingly playable. I have the orange Coleco one that you show in the link... there was a Nintendo Game and Watch one that was identical to it, just beige in color like the attached picture. I also have the prototype mockup for the Coleco style mini-arcade tabletop http://www.geekvintage.com/coleco-tabletop-donkey-kong-jr.php
Lord Thag #4 Posted April 3, 2011 This is one of the best tabletops I own. It's really fun. Definitely worth picking up!
