gooch3008 #1 Posted April 2, 2011 I don't know how I feel about this... I recently sold (or tried to sell) a CIB copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day. The auction was only for 3 days, it got bid up and sold. Two days go by and NOTHING from the buyer and then I get a message from the person telling me they can't pay and they want to cancel the transaction. WTF? Am I still going to be billed by Ebay for my listing? I will NOT be listing it again if so. I know its not alot of cash but I am still pissed about it. ugh. going back to bed.... Itchy Koala #2 Posted April 2, 2011 File a claim. They will try to get in touch with the buyer. If he doesn't answer you won't be charged commission. I currently have an open claim in progress
in the dark #3 Posted April 2, 2011 I have had this happen to me several times. Only it has been the seller that has backed out. I have had excuses like, "I can't find the item." Or this excuse I have had twice from sellers, "I have already sold the item on another auction." What!?! Then there is this one, "My kids had it and I don't know what they did with it." This usually comes from sellers that I know they did not get what they wanted for the item. But if you put an item up with a starting bid of 99cents, you had better expect that item may sell for that. The seller backing out has recently become more common than it has in the past. At least that is what I have experienced on ebay.
+Allan #4 Posted April 2, 2011 (edited) It's not always a lie. I recently listed an auction and when it was over I couldn't find the item. I went nuts looking for it. I then realized I had relisted the item I had already sold. A dumb mistake but it was a mistake. So yes sometimes it's a lie but sometimes it's not. HatefulGravey #5 Posted April 2, 2011 I'm in the business of buying and selling. Not games but other items. Anyway, it is always in bad taste to list an item twice. I understand wanting to be sure an items sells but listing it in two different auctions is bad form for sure. There is never an excuse for such a thing. If you are listing on things like Craigslist, list on all of them and take the calls, if you are going to auction it then one auction is enough. Either know enough to list the item in the right place to get what you want for it, or take the lumps and learn the ropes. This is the main reason I stay away from eBay. That place is 99% lazy people that need extra money trying to do business and they have no real desire to work for the sale. That might all seem a little harse, but I deal with things like this all day everyday, and it sucks big time! People should learn how to do business. I had a professor that told me the truth about things like this in college. She said "the difference in adults and children, is adults never have excuses, they have reasons." That is to say an adult doesn't expect to get away with things, they offer the reason and deal with the aftermath. "My kids lost it" is an excuse, and a poor one. +Allan #6 Posted April 2, 2011 Sorry, I just have to disagree with you. From what I can gather from what your saying, there is no excuse for a mistakes. Well mistakes happen, that's part of life. In the case of my auction, the magazines I was selling were from the 1970s and it was the only set I had. It's not like I could go get another set from the store and send them to the buyer. peeingas #7 Posted April 2, 2011 If you sell on ebay with auctions, then you are going to have deadbeats. Set your ebay to buy-it-now with immediate payment required. Then you will not have deadbeats.

A customer doesn't care about my mistakes or that I didn't sleep well last night, or anything else like that. A customer cares about their money and their wants and needs. A happy customer may tell 1 person how happy they are, a unhappy customer will tell atleast 3 how unhappy they are. If you are doing business then these things matter to you. If you aren't doing business you are part of that 99% that is selling something for quick money. Mistakes do happen. Listing the same item twice is not a mistake. That is an oversight at best. That means the seller should have known better and did it anyway. I'm not attacking you personally. I regret that there is someone here that has been on the "mistake" end of this just because I know it looks like I'm attacking you. eBay has done a great job of blurring the line between a yard sale and a business deal. Mostly because there are people there doing both and there is no easy way to seperate the 2. We all want top dollar for our items, but too often making a "mistake" in listing an item twice looks like listing something twice to double the odds that someone gives me what I want for it. Again, I'm not saying that is your deal, I'm just commenting on the way the customer sees this.

toptenmaterial #11 Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) I found a Japanese Saturn game CIB (can't remember which one) at the Salvation Army in Providence and sold it on eBay for about $30. Buyer didn't pay. Being a novice seller (this was about 6 years ago) I simply relisted and got .99 cents for it. I have, from time to time, made mistakes as a seller. A partial or full refund and a sincere apology is the appropriate thing to do, whatever it takes so that your buyer- who could be a kid- isn't left feeling bad. Yeah im not gonna mess with ebay for awhile... You get the same profit and less hassle selling here usually. eBay is good for buyers looking for lots to break up and resell, other than that AA has everything I need. Good luck bro Q. Will ebay punish a seller who backs out in any way, shape, or form? If not, then this type of shenanigans will become rampant. Yes, and in fact these problems already are rampant. However I do give you credit for bringing the word shenanigans back into the modern lexicon Edited April 3, 2011 by toptenmaterial
A_Locomotive #12 Posted April 3, 2011 I've had to bad experiences on ebay. First was actually the first thing I ever won on ebay, it was a model kit of the Corvette Indy concept. I won, paid the seller and then nothing, never heard back from them and was not able to get my money back. :/ The second was for a pretty rare and long out of print CD by the band Cavity titled Drowning. When they pop up on ebay they generally sell from between $30-60, I won it for $5. The seller told me his house had been flooded and the CD along with most of his other possessions had been ruined by Hurricane Katrina. Well guess who later re-listed the exact same CD? Its bad enough that he ripped me off(he never returned my $5 and neither paypal or ebay were any help)but he chose a pretty damn distasteful way to lie about it. TheGameCollector #13 Posted April 3, 2011 Q. Will ebay punish a seller who backs out in any way, shape, or form? If not, then this type of shenanigans will become rampant. Well they still have to pay their fee for listing it unless it was one of those free auction or Buy It Now offers that pop up every few months for good sellers. The only reason I haven't bought anything off here is because every time I listed a want ad for something I was willing to buy, nobody had the item I was looking for. I have more luck on digitpress.com with that it seems. But maybe it's because I only collect game systems and complete copies of video games.
SRGilbert #14 Posted April 3, 2011 I think I can beat any deadbest seller story. I bought a laptop wireless card (this was a few years ago, before they were built in) and I think it was even a BIN listing. Paid right away, got a message from the seller it would ship right away. One week goes by, no ship notice. Ttwo weeks and I send him a message asking status, he tells me he has been too busy but will ship it out THAT DAY. Week 3 goes by, nothing, sent him another status request, says he shipped it yesterday but ignores my request for any sort of proof. Week 4, I finally say screw it and start a claims process with Ebay. Almost immediately afterward, I get an email from "his next of kin'' saying that he DIED in a car accedent a few days ago, and basically trying to give me a guilt trip for not being understanding. Who knows maybe he did kick the bucket, but that doesn't excuse what a jerk he was being up until that point.
coyo5050 #15 Posted April 4, 2011 New trick I have discovered when the seller doesn't get the money they want: is for them to say they shipped it but they actually didnt. You wait a couple weeks wondering where your package is and they oddly are more than happy to refund your money and somehow they dont have a tracking number. I dont know about you but if the post office lost my package I would at least pretend to be upset.

Paul Humbug #17 Posted April 4, 2011 there's a reason I don't ebay anymore. Got burned way too often, both as buyer and seller. The majority of the deals went okay, but if you get burned a couple of times it just takes out the fun of doing it.
