NE146
And more "Blast From The Past" EGM scans from bored worker here, this time with a sneak preview of the upcoming secret Atari handheld.. THE LYNX!
bergbros
Interesting. It is interesting to see some of the games had started with different names like Electrocop (Impossible Mission). EGM was perceptive with the ultimate downfall of the Lynx which was lack of third party support and the price. THey were off with the multiplayer as the most the Lynx could do was eight players and everyone needed the cart to play. It is important to note that EGM thought that the system compared favorably to CONSOLES on the market. It points out again how truly advance the system was and is today. They were concerned about arcade quality games which I thought was a strength of the Lynx.
+Sauron
EGM was a BIG supporter of the Lynx early on. I remember seeing several layouts within the magazine just on the Lynx. They generally gave pretty favorable reviews to Lynx games, too, until Atari somehow pissed them off.
Tempest
Also notice the screenshot for Rampage is totaly different and that the California Games cart has a different label. I like Gauntlet 3's original name: Time Quests and Treasure Chests. Tempest

Jess Ragan
Heh, does anyone remember the Lynx Adventure insert, which was written just like the rest of EGM but was in actuality an ad Sendai created for Atari? If that weren't bad enough, one of the writers snuck in a message proclaiming that GamePro sucked in an article about Championship Cyberball. K3V
Man, that EGM article is a crazy childhood flashback for me. I remember flipping through the magazine at the grocery store and seeing that picture of California Games. I couldn't believe that was on a portable and I thought I would never have one. Well today I've got two Being grown up isn't all bad! -Kevin
Godzilla
that article inspired me to buy a lynx from the california test market before it even hit retail they had another article that had more shots of rampage, and the godzilla character looked even more godzilla like, and the graphics were MUCH better than the final version. I was so dissappointed when the rampage finally did come out for the lynx and it didnt have the detailed buildings, and godzilla got a flat face and lost his 'godzilla' look. still played really well tho. and i enjoyed it having the music from c-64 'movie monster game' which did have an actual godzilla license.
