XEGS questions

I am thinking about this being my next system acquisition, but am curious about the following:

 

Are the games on par with 7800 and A800 computers?

 

Are A800, 2600, 5200, or 7800 games compatible with XEGS?

 

Were many games released for XEGS, or a small library overall?

 

Is there a Donkey Kong release for XEGS that has all 4 arcade levels like A800 version?

 

What is a reasonable price I should be willing to pay for a system with controllers and light gun?

Thanks, Jaybird, for the thread links. Good information, but I still do not know if A800 games fit into the cart slot on an XEGS system. Also, who sells the A800 DK game in cartridge format?

That looks sweet. I have always wanted a home version of Battlezone done in its original vector graphics style. He gives it a grade of "F", but I don't care. I am on the lookout for an XEGS system.

there are tons of arcade accurate versions of Battlezone out there if you're willing to look at later consoles.

Ummm, maybe you are thinking of Garry Kitchen's Battle Tank, released for NES and Super Battle Tank for SNES and Genesis? A Google search for "SNES Battlezone" turned up nothing, as did an ebay search.

No reason why it shouldn't....it's essentially a redesigned 65XE.

Search didn't work on ebay because it's in a compilation. Arcades Greatest Hits Atari Collection 1 is the name of the compilation with the Battlezone port. Very nice collection too.

 

edit: I tried for searching google for SNES Battlezone and found a couple things about the Atari Collection SNES, but not on the first link and with other links that had nothing to do with SNES or the Atari Collection.

I have a chance to pick up an XEGS with controller, power adapter, gun, and 5 games for $65. Should I pull the trigger on this deal?

 

I already have VCS, CV, 5200 and 7800, so is there much I already do not have, short of 4-level DK?

Seems like a good price to me. Yes there is a Donkey Kong with all 4 levels and yes most A800 carts will work. Battlezone is horrible though. The grade of F is justified IMO.

Sounds like a decent deal - not amazing, but not bad either if it's in good shape. What games?

 

I have quite a few 800 carts and every one I've tried has worked in the XEGS. It's pretty much the same as a 65xe so if there are a few games that don't work it'd be pretty rare. I love the console, by the way. Tons of great games for pretty cheap. You've got a lot of bases covered already, but it seem like there are a lot of A8/XEGS games that I don't *think* made it onto other gaming consoles - Necromancer, Blue Max, Load Runner, etc.
