SwampFox56 #1 Posted April 9, 2011 How good of a price is that for an unopened ColecoVision? He did say that the box is a little damaged though. But it is still new in the plastic
Yurkie #2 Posted April 9, 2011 How good of a price is that for an unopened ColecoVision? He did say that the box is a little damaged though. But it is still new in the plastic I the CV was not shrinkwrapped from the factory, so I would be leery if I found a "new one" shrinkwrapped. The most important thing is to ask the seller if you can see it working. $40 for a " working " or " decent working CV " is a great deal. You'll likely have some controller issues and power switch issues, that can be easily fixed.
SwampFox56 #3 Posted April 9, 2011 Excuse me, its not shrink wrapped, but the guy said that he bought it form the Salvation Army like 2 years ago, and its been sitting in his closet ever since
NIAD #4 Posted April 9, 2011 Unopened/Unused ColecoVisions that are complete with the box and styrofoam packing can go for a pretty penny on eBay, basically what it all boils down to is timing. Over the last year I have seen units like the one you are describing go for anywhere from $150 on up to $225.
SwampFox56 #5 Posted April 9, 2011 This is his exact words. "I bought it from the salvation army a litte over 2 years ago, it seems to be new, as the original sticker holding the flap down is still there, and has not been torn in anyway. The only damage to it is, one of the corners on the box are dented in, along the box fading. But other wise, It seems to be in great shape, I have not opened it once since I bought it." how sketchy does this sound?
Itchy Koala #6 Posted April 9, 2011 A boxed system for 40 bucks? Can't really go wrong there. No brainer for me.

Sounds like BS to me. The original CV had end flaps glued.
tz101 #8 Posted April 9, 2011 Call me suspicious, but I would not do any ebay or Craigslist purchase of anything "NIB" without seeing what's inside the package first. What if there is nothing more than a block of wood inside that box?

Yurkie #10 Posted April 9, 2011 Just buy it. It's $40. Open it in front of him after you fork over the $40. if it is a dirty repacked POS demand your money back.

SwampFox56 #12 Posted April 9, 2011 Ok I just picked it up from him. The original glue is still intact, and has not been broken. The box is torn on the right upper corner, and threw that little tear you can see the Styrofoam, and if you part the styrofoam you can just barely see the console it self, and from what i can see, it is in PERFECT condition. So what are your guys opinion on what i should do? Should i sell it? Keep it? Keep it but never open it?

Remove the contents, check and make certain everything is there. Plug it into your TV for an initial test. If everything works OK, then repackage it as it came and only play your other CV system. I do not believe that breaking the seal on any NIB system devalues it in any way whatsoever. Keep it for the value it will gain over the years, then either use it when your other one finally breaks, or sell it when you have gained substantial interest on your investment. retroillucid #16 Posted April 9, 2011 There's no shrinkwrap for any Colecovision console / Games /Exp Modules made by Coleco Industries So, If I were you, I would remove the shrinkwrap and carefully check if the box is originaly sealed (glued) and doesn't seem to be already have opened and re-glued $150 for a brand new CV system is a steal btw
SwampFox56 #17 Posted April 9, 2011 I put it up for auction here on eBay eBay Auction -- Item Number: 190521576062 It was not shrinkwrapped when i got it, but the original factory glue was intact
youki #18 Posted April 9, 2011 There's no shrinkwrap for any Colecovision console / Games /Exp Modules made by Coleco Industries I have a brand new Atari Expansion Module that is shrinkwrapped. I don't remember if my console i had in 1983 was shrinkwrapped or not. But expension modules were in Europe at least. The Turbo Module was as was other cartridges. Or may be i don't translate well "shrinkwrapped" ? I understand "a plastic film around the object" , is that correct?

Does everything have to be about making money these days? If I found a boxed colecovision for that price I'd be ashamed to tell everyone here that it's up on eBay so I can make money off it. I know, call me crazy. Edited April 9, 2011 by Itchy Koala
