"Video Games" Magazine

Recommended Posts

In the early 1980's there was a video game magazine called "Video Games." Is this magazine archived on the Internet? I'm having a tough time narrowing my search down because I can't get a narrow search because of the generic sounding name of the magazine.

The reason that I ask is that someone on the Bally Alley discussion board asked if anyone has the March 1984 issue of "Video Games" magazine. There is an article (not sure of the name) by Mark Brownstein that covers Astrocade rumors. If the magazine isn't online, and someone has this issue, could you please scan article?

Thanks.

A member of the Bally Alley Yahoo group had this magazine in his collection. Here is the cover:

He scanned the two relevant pages and I have created a pdf of the article and posted it on BallyAlley.com. The article is called "Astrocade's Extended Play" by Mark Brownstein. The first paragraph reads:

"Over the last year we've reported quite a bit on Astrocade, this in spite of the fact that the firm went belly up more than a year ago. In a recent issue, we presented reviews of Astrocade games-- some of which were available before Astrocade's bankruptcy, and others which became available after the system's most recent demise."

The complete article can be downloaded here:

"Astrocade's Extended Play" by Mark Brownstein (Video Games)(1984)

After reading the article, a member of the group named Paul wrote:

"Nice! It is kind of surprising to see the Astrocade mentioned on the cover of a magazine as late as 1984. It's too bad Astrocade never emerged from their bankruptcy. There were several games nearly completed, and I could see it having some success as a budget console, and maybe even leading to the release of a new console."

Enjoy reading the article.

I have a couple of issues of Video Games and I'm pretty sure one or two has a Bally Astrocade article in it. If I ever dig them out I could scan them if anyone is interested.

Some of these are probably already available over at BallyAlley.com, here:

Articles and news about the Bally / Astrocade from books, magazines, and trade papers

This compilation of articles is hardly exhaustive, so if you DO have some article not list here, then let me know.
