Yeccch! There isn't enough RetroBrite hydrogen peroxide cream in the world to help that old carcass. If it works, and if I was looking for a board to transplant into a nicer-looking console, I might pick it up just for parts. But otherwise, I'd pass.

Sorry had the wrong craig link: http://madison.craig...2308316614.html

Kinda wondering why are the games not the same color or condition of the SNES?

Might consider picking that thing up if I ever do a post-apocalyptic themed gaming room. That thing looks like it's been through a fire. And for reasons unknown even to me, the lone NES cartridge makes me giggle.

Offer him $20 (with the explanation that the system looks like ****). The games themselves are probably worth that amount (Do I see Ys III and Out of This World in there, among others?). Give the system a new paint job after you get it if he accepts.... :)

Yeah.. I was on my phone when I posted that response. Regardless, I would still offer him that amount because of how ****** the system looks..... :D

I'd offer ten or twenty bucks, maybe. Cleaning is probably pretty simple, but it'll take some time. At flea markets stuff can be pretty dirty, and nobody wants to buy it. If they really wanted top dollar, they would have cleaned it already. A little citrus cleaner and/or some alcohol can usually take that off fairly easily.

Those make good projects for sure. But if it looks like that on the outside, you wonder what the insides look like. And you should have serious questions about its functionality.

That one doesn't even look like it sat in a garage for 15 years. It looks like it was tossed in that box and put in the tin shed out back.

Yeah, with anything that looks that bad, you're taking a chance that it was abused rather than neglected, but lots of times the grunge is only superficial, especially with things that don't have fans. It's always satisfying though, when you start with something you got for next-to-nothing and can clean it up and make it look real good (and it works).

Cant. He's my cousin's step brother and i dont see him very often, maybe around christmas or thanksgiving (we go to his house then). Maybe I could get a pic later this year, but this thread would probably long gone by then.

Trust me, it is horrifying. I couldn't believe the level of yellowing that thing has the first time I saw it.

My 5200 was an example of this. I think it had been in a flood or something, since the entire system was caked in grime, the RF shields were rusted and the RF connector was corroded and bent to the point where it was unusable. Opening it up was fun too, since the motherboard was also covered in grime and had been home to a colony of tiny little spiders (found two egg sacs!) at one point. I cleaned it up almost as soon as I got it home, and a few years later I modded it for S-video and a power jack. It's a bit scratched up, but it looks great overall now.

I can't understand the mind of folks who think it's okay to sell dirty, smelly grimy things.Plus, clean merchandise of ANY type demands more $$$, regardless of condition.

I can understand not taking hours to disassemble, scrub everything with a toothbrush and whitewall cleaner (including individual keycaps if applicable) and then retr0briting, etc...etc... But I don't understand why people don't at least do the once-over with Windex and a paper towel. Extremely odd that they don't.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say that it's odd. Especially if they found it in some pile somewhere and just wanted to make a quick buck. Some people don't care enough to put in the time.

Also consider this: if you had this Nintendo you might figure you can sell it for $20 in its current condition. Would it be worth all the hours (how much is your time worth) and materials (more money) to possibly increase the value to $40?

Whenever I buy something on CL, I just assume it's a dirt covered piece of crap, and I'm rarely ever dissappointed.
