roms ported in cartridge form

Recommended Posts

Now back from the weekend and just received my package full of new (for me) games for Colecovision, never seen before.

played for the first time games like WILD WESTERN, SPACE CAVERNS, DEATH RACE, really great.

But very nice to play also MAZEZAM. Finally not only a photo but the full game to play on the real thing.

Space caverns seem great but full of bugs. This the game I would buy, if finished, from a homebrewer. Where to buy it as "original" ? have the homebrewer released a debugged and complete version for sale ?

All three of those games were WIP (works in progress) that were never completed 100% unfortunately... really would love to see Wild Western revisted as it's one of the infamous vaporware Coleco titles.

If Wild Western ever is revisited by Opcode, I would love to see it use a dual hand controller option... one controller for movement of the horse back character and the other controller used for the direction of the character's gun/shooting. While the Atari 5200 had a controller joiner/tray for games that required both controllers like Space Dungeon, we already have a dual controller holder in the Roller Controller... and this would give me a great excuse to leave it setup all the time!! The Super Action Controller would be another option if used like the controls are setup in Front Line.

and about Space Caverns where Scott can be contacted ? why the game san not finished ? can we try we all together to convince him to complete the game or to pass the files to another homebrewer ? I can eventually consider the idea to produce it in cart form with the help of an italian guy, the engineer who sold me these games in cart form.

Going back to whether it's legal or not ...

Legally, you are allowed to download and use a ROM file of a game you do not OWN for 24 hours, until the copyright is past. But if you own an ORIGINAL cartridge, then you may use the ROM file as long as you continue to own the cartridge. When you no longer have the cartridge, you must also stop playing the ROM. By this definition, any repro carts would be considered illegal in countries that support copyright laws, and the the current copyright owner could have a copyright infringement case against you. Companies that plan to make "collections" games would be the ones to go after ROM users.

There is a reason the multicart people don't send the games on the cart. It would be legally gray, at best.

I read few time ago that this statement is a wrong belief . You are not allowed to use software (so romfile) you didn't own a license for. (even just for 24h).
