Inky #1 Posted December 20, 2002 My wife found a store in Kankakee that hase 6-7 large boxes of atari games, controllers AND systems in back!!!!! Problem: Overpriced.. games are $4 (3 for 10), controllers are $10, and systems are $44. At least they have some 7800's in stock, so I don't need to get thosreplacement switches now! Yay!! joeybastard #2 Posted December 20, 2002 I got one of those type stores also called GamesUSA. About the same prices as you mentioned. The good thing is, even the rarer games are about $4 so sometimes I find a good deal. They have 7800's refurbished with a joypad controller and 1 game for $44.99. A little steep for my taste. +RangerG #3 Posted December 20, 2002 Those prices don't sound terrible. I assume the store isn't a thrift so the owner needs to make a profit. $3 for a game and $10 for a controller isn't bad for the convenience and ability to actually see/hold what you are buying and NO SHIPPING costs. I really believe in supporting independent/local merchants, so I would be happy with your store find -- congrats!

gavv #5 Posted December 20, 2002 Yeah, the one game store around here that does buy and sell Atari, I've found some deals because they just price everything the same, 2600 carts for $3 or 4 for $10. Found some decent carts there, nothing overly rare, but found a lot of say 3s and 4s on the rarity charts. gavv
AtariLeaf #6 Posted December 20, 2002 I agree, if they have games there that you have a hard time finding then its worth 3 or 4 bucks. Locally, our Value Village has a Sega Master System with 6 games. They want $70 for it. Quite a bit for SMS if you ask me but then again I'm not a SMS collector and maybe its a good price for someone who is.

If it was complete boxed copies of Phantasy Star, Wonder Boy III, Golden Axe Warrior, Montezuma's Revenge, Joe Montana Football and Paperboy, it MIGHT be worth $70. sku_u #8 Posted December 20, 2002 WOW, those of you who have regular retailers who buy and sell Atari items are very fortunate. I have to rely on thrifts and garage sales where I am as the only stores around me who buy and sell videogames are Funcoland and EBGames. Neither of these stores will purchase Super Nintendo anymore. Let alone Atari.
Voch #9 Posted December 20, 2002 I've splurged on 10 or so common but $3 carts at a local specialized toy store (Big Fun in the Coventry area of Cleveland/Cleveland Heights, OH). All were in very nice condition and I had the money so I got 'em (and I'll probably do it again next time I'm over there). Voch

AtariLeaf #12 Posted December 20, 2002 Today is a good today to hunt. I picked up a heavy sixer and 7 games (all common), two sets of paddles, two driving controllers, and some other joysticks including a boxed kraft joystick (never seen them before) all for the magic price of $4.00. I've never seen the adaptor before either. Its all gray with "Atari" in big black letters and the atari symbol underneath. Good day eh! Hey is this important - I looked under the heavy sixer and it says its a sunnyvale, ca model - SN 72132G
moycon #13 Posted December 20, 2002 I hate it when you find a large mess of games, and then that they are over priced. I was so excited when I found 2 different booths selling Atari carts...Prollly had over 100 loose at each...But they wanted $5.00 a piece. They must sell them two because a little while later The one had like 25 left at a reduced price but they were all painfully common ones at that point. *sigh*
ubersaurus #14 Posted December 20, 2002 haha, my flea market sells em for 2 bucks apiece (5.00 for specially marked ones, which are generally harder to find games, or ones in higher demand).
+RangerG #15 Posted December 20, 2002 Circus Atari -- I assume that power supply is the original from a heavy sixer. I have seen two like that and both came with heavy sixers. Both also didn't work. One made such a bad noise I was afraid it would catch fire or something. They are cool to look at though.
mark #16 Posted December 20, 2002 i found a shop and hour from me that has snes consoles ( for $5 apiece. i bought 5 atari games for $10 including mario bros. they also have sega genesis consoles i could get cheap.

Thankfully the "sixer" itself works great with my other adaptors. I'll keep it, like you say, for show.

raindog #20 Posted December 21, 2002 One night last week I discovered a new store in one of the local strip malls called "Game Stop". Apparently it's a chain of at least two stores, no idea if it's a franchise of a larger entity. But they have actual SNES and Genesis sections and a bin full of (mostly common and overpriced, but I bought a bunch anyway) NES carts. They pretty much don't touch Atari anything but my comp carts from AtariAge of my two hacks had arrived that day and the kids working there were duly impressed at my old-skoolness I expect I'll start getting my used GBA/GBC games from there instead of half.com whenever I can, because it's nice to have someone around besides EBgames (who are pretty useless in my view.) joserb #21 Posted December 21, 2002 I found a local antique store around here that sells Atari stuff. Saw an ad in the paper one day for this store that has "6,000 video tapes, DVD, Nintendo, PlayStation, and Atari." So I went to check it out. Found the 2600 games on the bottom shelf in a corner. The sign said "Atari games - $1 each." Needless to say, I was there for about an hour. I pulled about 20 different games off the shelf, and when I took them to the counter, the owner said he had a few more boxes of games in back and he'd be right back with them. I think I ended up buying 85 different games that I didn't already have. Most of the stuff he had was commons, but there were a few less common games mixed in. And there's plenty left. He probably had about 500 games total. I couldn't get him to go any lower than $1 a game... even in bulk . He also sells 2600 systems with the controllers, etc. for $20 apeice (at least that is what he said, I saw some systems in the backroom when I went back with a friend to look for Genesis games). sku_u #22 Posted December 21, 2002 I had the find of finds today. I was doing my usual thriftstore rounds when I came across a HUGE box of old games and accessories. The games were being sold at $2 each. I convinced the owner to sell me the entire box for $80. There has to be AT LEAST 200 games in this box. I haven't had a chance to look through it yet, but I think that I'll be buying a CV soon as I noticed a number of those games in the box. This is by far the largest collection I've ever come across in the wild. The owner of the store told me that a woman had donated the games earlier today. He wasn't too thrilled with having so many old games, so he was more than happy to part with them.

BlackTyrannomon #24 Posted December 21, 2002 Definatley a good find. Now if only more people around my place would have garadge sales around this time... not much in the way of atari goodies out here, an abundance of NES/Genesis, but SMS, Atari, nowhere to be found. That is that I know of. Anybody know any good vintage game stores in Suffolk County, NY?
