Elerach #1 Posted April 15, 2011 Hey everybody, I recently bought an SIO2PC from a member here (the RS-232 model) and i am having a little bit of trouble getting it to connect; I was hoping i could get a little help from you guys. I have it hooked up through a Serial-USB to my windows 7 laptop (32-bit) and i can't seem to get it to connect, either through APE or ASPEQT. The computer recognizes the adaptor (I can see it under installed devices in windows explorer) but neither program seems to see it connected to the SIO2PC, as the only response i am getting is "COM1 port not available". As far as i can see everything is hooked up correctly (The device lights up when i turn on the Atari, but still no response from my laptop) and i was wondering if there was any steps i was missing, or any troubleshooting i can do. Thanks in advance, Elerach! By the way, this is the specific adaptor: http://www.usbfirewire.com/parts/rr-usb-017.html
4hubbs #2 Posted April 15, 2011 Check your system BIOS to see if the COM port is enabled.
accousticguitar #3 Posted April 15, 2011 What are you trying to do? If you want to play a game aren't you supposed to load a disc image into APE first and then turn on the Atari?
+wood_jl #4 Posted April 15, 2011 I have read that not all USB-to-serial adapters will work. There have been some threads about it, before. I think this was the impetus behind the necessity and creation of the USB version. However, some will work. Unfortunately, I can't remember all the specifics; perhaps a superior intellect will chime in. What kind of USB-to-serial adapter is it that you are using?
