why VBXE instead of Atari 'SUZY' chip?

Recommended Posts

Long story short, SUZY chip is $20 from Best. I never knew that the Lynx uses 6502, although Gauntlet IV had that 8-bit Atari feel :) I wonder why a whole new chip was designed instead of using the readily available and well documented SUZY chip? Also is detailed documentation (including schematics) of the Lynx that shames our A8 documentation.

I hope that someday I can be a valuable asset to the 8-bit community :)

VBXE works in parallel with Antic and GTIA without affecting the operation of either.

An existing chip wouldn't be able to do that.

Plus, can Suzy even generate a signal that a CRT would understand?

Finally, you'd probably be looking at $100+ pricetag anyway, once you add price of board, extra RAM and associated extra hardware.

And, what speed is Suzy? I bet somewhat less than 14 MHz.

And who'd want an "upgrade" that doesn't even match the existing resolution?
