ZDoom issues

Okay, I had no idea where to put this one. This is on a modern computer, and I don't think even a 486 would fall under "Classic Computing". It's not emulation either, as its a source port. It's an 18 year old game, so... Classic Gaming it is. In any case, I'm stuck.

 

I just downloaded ZDoom because I was tired of fidgeting with DosBox to play Doom and getting only mediocre results. The problem is that on all 3 Doom engine games I have (Doom2, Heretic, and Hexen), the screen frequently flashes black during play. The engine is still running because the sound never cuts out and I get shot when the screen is black. It hampers gameplay, and it's extremely annoying.

 

Has anybody encountered this problem? Other than that, ZDoom runs pretty much perfectly.

I haven't touched Doom in years but I used to play it all the time, make WADs and all that, and I ran all these launchers. ZDoom was my favorite of them all. That said I haven't touched it in a long while. I'll see what I can do to help you as there were things that had to be tweeked for ZDoom.

 

What OS are you running? What version of ZDoom are you running? What version of the PWAD files are you running? I will need to know all of those things to know what the problem might be.

Hm, strange. I haven't messed with ZDoom too much, so I can't help you too much here.. I used to play through DOOM Legacy back in the day. Suppposedly ZDoom is leagues above it these days, but I never had any problems with it, so if you want to give that one a shot, go for it..

 

Oh, I also meant to say, mess with your video settings. Turn off certain special graphical features and that may fix your problem.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm running Windows XP, ZDoom 2.5.0, and I'm just using the vanilla WADs for Doom 2, Heretic, and Hexen. Haven't downloaded any PWADS yet.
