cybersp78 #1 Posted April 24, 2011 Hello All, Since sega-16 is down, I thought maybe someone could help me here. I am having a few issues with my 32x and I thought maybe the connector cable between the 32x and the model 2 genesis was a problem. When looking at the cable, it only has 8 pins for each side although the genesis and 32x receptacles have 9 pins. Is this correct? Did it just not use all 9 pins? If anyone has this cable could someone check for me the number of pins on the cable before I try ordering a new one? Thanks.
Koopa64 #2 Posted April 24, 2011 Yes, the patch cable is suppose to have only 8 out of 9 pins. The 9th pin in question is +5v. If that is connected, the Genesis can't turn off from the power switch. You should write up what is wrong with your 32X, perhaps we can troubleshoot it for you. Though I bet it's just a dirty connection, the 32X doesn't like contamination. cybersp78 #3 Posted April 24, 2011 Thanks. That's good to know that isn't the issue. I had posted my issue originally on the sega-16 forums and nobody had an idea so maybe someone would here. I am having an issue when playing the 32x cd games or sega cd games when the 32x is inserted. The screen gets a bit garbled as if it's getting major interference or something isn't reading correctly. When playing regular 32x games or genesis games through the 32x, the games play perfectly. When disconnecting the 32x, the sega cd games play perfectly fine. I have all the parts to the 32x including the electromagenetic clips and I have opened up the 32x and disconnected and reconnected the white strips as I know those have been an issue. I have also cleaned the connectors on the 32x and genesis so at this point, I am thinking there must be something wrong with the 32x. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. SEgamer #4 Posted April 25, 2011 Sounds like one of the power supplies could be bad. Is the screen wavy or has a greenish/purplish tint to it? Does the sound hum any? Right now I have a hacked SNES to where it uses a normal DC power supply. When testing it out, I was using a DC supply that wasn't providing enough amps. The result was that everything would work, but the screen would roll, become garbled, or wavy, or all of the above. Are you using power supplies made for the Genesis and the add-ons? cybersp78 #5 Posted April 25, 2011 No, no hum and no purple hue. They are official sega adapters that I am using. I think I have actually figured out the problem now. On a whim, I decided to switch out the genesis 2 with another one I had laying around and when hooking everything back up, the 32x cd games and sega cd games worked perfectly. So I am thinking one of those connectors on my genesis to the sega cd must have had some issues. I don't know why regular sega cd games would work though. Thanks for all of your suggestions. I would have never guessed this would have fixed it.
Koopa64 #6 Posted April 25, 2011 Power supplies can gradually over time lose their potency. It's always good to keep spares on hand. Good to hear you found a solution though!
