Which Intellivision console do you prefer, original, II, or III?

Recommended Posts

Can't believe all the hate for the INTV 2... I've had mine since 1982 and still works like a champ to this day. All the INTV 1s I've picked up second hand had a trouble of some form, my favorite "trouble" on one of those INTV 1s is the duplicating of sprites halfway down the display (and both sets of sprites ARE active)

I was using my ECS this morning on my Inty 1, so I can confirm it works on that model as well, and while you have to do a mod to your Inty 1 to use the system changer, it is possible.

Beyond the Coleco games the following Intellivision games don't work properly on an Inty II as well:

Space Spartans, Shark! Shark!, Super Pro Football.

I only love playing Space Spartans on my 2.

As 4 the Tron guy, too bad cmart as u were on AGT this week lol :)

Yes, my appearance on America's Got Talent was disappointingly brief as I really thought my interpretative dance to the Legacy soundtrack was quite stunning, but all I got were comments around spandex being tight in all the wrong places. Heartbreaking. :P

My wife was just watching it online and called me over when she saw Tron Guy coming on stage. You should have just started dancing and not done the whole introduction thing. At least then they'd have seen a little of your act, and if it truly was stunning, they wouldn't have buzzed you so quick. But honestly, with those judges, I don't think you stood a chance of dancing for more than a few seconds anyway.

I don't know. Unless they were just joking around, that's what he's saying ("my appearance on America's Got Talent"), so I was going with it. The only reason I came to AA just now was because I saw it, and wanted to see if anyone commented on it, so I did a quick search and found this and the other post by Homerwannabee.

Wait though, no offense, but do they allow Canadians on America's Got Talent? Is it like "North America's Got Talent"?

Lol! Ummm, just so we're all clear Rev made a joke about me being Tron Guy because of my avatar and we've just kinda run with it. For full disclosure, I am not Tron Guy, I'm nowhere near as attractive and as slim a man as he is, and I certainly don't look as good in spandex as he does. ;)

LOL Gotcha... you were pretty convincing. I swear he has posted on here before, but I don't know his user name, unless it's Tron Guy ha ha.

I'm a lot thinner than Tron Guy, but I still don't know that I would look anywhere near decent in spandex, but then, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing spandex to begin with.

I too am thinner than him and my wife is not a fan of mustaches, and yes, no male should be wearing spandex unless he's participating in an Olympic event that requires it, :)

There's a reason I don't like to watch reality shows like America's Got Talent. I think they are hope dashing shows. People go on stage and are boo'd and treated very disrespectfully. All for ratings.

I watched my wife go through something like that in college when the music school's jury told her she wasn't good enough to continue with the music program. She hasn't picked up her instrument or played the piano since.

Tron Guy was very brave to get on that stage, and they treated him like dirt. Pitiful. But the human species flocks to crap like that show and eat it up. No wonder our civilization is like it is. No respect for each other.

Exactly. I especially hated how Howie Mandell encouraged him to start over again a couple times and ignore the audience, and he said he really wanted to see his act, then 2 seconds after he restarts again a second time, he buzzes him? What was with that? I thought he really was encouraging him, but he was just taunting him. The judges really were a bunch of jackwagons as usual.

Whoa, this is way off topic, isn't it.

TV? Oh, t hat thing I play video games on. I was actually playing a recent round of Astrosmash on my INTV2 earlier. That game really punishes you once you get to a 4x multiplier. Night Stalker's also bad once the Dalek-looking robot and worse, the scorpion robots make an entrance. I think the scorpion bots with the yellow shots are capable of destroying the safe-house?

Yeah, sorry. I jumped on my soapbox for a moment.

Back to the original subject ... model 1. :)

If I could, I'd get the Sears Super Video Arcade. Has that nice look that merges styles from the 70s and 80s, controller slots that make more sense (vertical instead of horizontal), and removable controllers.

Though, if I can get the compatibility mod, composite mod, and get the cart slot cleaned (have the damndest time even getting carts I know to work to boot up), I'm quite happy with my INTV2.

I actually did a composite mod on my Intellivision II, and while I still use it, I wouldn't bother with it if I had to do it over again. If you use a good adapter and cable and not a snowy old switchbox, composite really isn't that much better than the built-in RF modulator, which is pretty good on all the Intellivisions. The composite mod I used (from 8BitDomain) introduced a bad ghosting effect, which I never noticed with plain RF.

As for the cartridge slot, here's the easiest way I've found to clean it: take a credit card or some other stiff plastic card of the same size and thickness, wrap a t-shirt around one of its short edges, wet both sides of it very slightly with rubbing alcohol (enough to get it damp, but not so much that it's dripping), and slide it in and out of the cartridge connector a few times. Next, move the card to a dry area of the t-shirt and repeat the process to eliminate any alcohol residue. Let it dry for a few minutes before you try to use it, and you might want to give the inside of the connector a quick puff of canned air to clear away any lint or dust inside it.

What is it that doesn't work properly about space spartans? I haven't noticed any issues.

Jay, oddly enough on some games like AD&D Cloudy Mountain I notice some nasty ghosting when roaming the mountain passages (man, did arrow grinding in the grey caverns help with Champion difficulty), other than that I do agree on how nice the RF can get.
