ATARI7800fan #1 Posted April 26, 2011 I have been looking at Atari ST computers lately and happened to notice the Atari Mega models, While I do like the looks and separate keyboard(reminds me of the Amiga 1000) I was wondering what are people's opinion of it and is it worth the price to get one over the other ST models. Also how much do they usually sell for, what is a good price. Just asking not really in the market for one now.
FastRobPlus #2 Posted April 26, 2011 I once saw an Atari Mega ST 2 injure someone. He touched the case near the back so I assume one of the metal connectors? He jumped about 3 feet back. So I respect the power of the Mega.

FastRobPlus #4 Posted April 26, 2011 And as the OP points out, they are gorgeous machines.
Pilsner73 #5 Posted April 26, 2011 My first ST was a Mega ST2, great machine, and nice case to work on it.
atarian63 #6 Posted April 26, 2011 space saving, nice looking and stackable with megafile 30 or 60. Pretty much the perfect ST and very compatible. Had them all including a Falcon but stayed with the Mega series. Has 3 Mega 4 and 2 Mega 2 models. (because I can..)
oky2000 #7 Posted April 27, 2011 Pretty much agree, look great with megafile and Atari monitors on top. Maybe 50-60 more than 520.
+DarkLord #8 Posted April 28, 2011 I once saw an Atari Mega ST 2 injure someone. He touched the case near the back so I assume one of the metal connectors? He jumped about 3 feet back. So I respect the power of the Mega. Had to be something wrong with it. Now, in the case of my Mega ST, I've got the louver fins removed from the case fan, to improve airflow. I did this at the recommendation of Best Electronics, since my Mega ST runs my BBS and is on 24/7. So if you didn't realize this, and reached behind blindly, you *might* get knicked by the fan... I use mine to run my BBS, 24/7 and it keeps chugging along, like a champ. They look great, and when you actually start handling one, you'll realize just how well built they are. Awesome keyboard too, btw.

+DarkLord #11 Posted April 30, 2011 They would hook up with the SC1224 RGB color monitor or the mono model. If you were lucky enough, a few 3rd party video cards were made that let you use VGA type graphics.
+Sauron #12 Posted April 30, 2011 I always lusted after the MegaST, and wouldn't have cared what model that I could have gotten. I had a chance to purchase an old user group MegaST2 a few years back but passed it up, now I regret it.
