stirrell #1 Posted April 27, 2011 PC Mag just ran a slideshow of the history of Atari computers from the 8-bits to the Falcon. Kinda cool. http://www.pcworld.com/article/225776/the_history_of_atari_computers.html

+wood_jl #4 Posted April 28, 2011 That was awesome! They made it sound like the 520STe was the first "520" model to share the 1040's larger case. No mention of 520STfm, or omitting the claim that the 520STe was the first "big" 520. I guess we're lucky they covered Atari computers, and didn't trash-talk 'em. I never heard of the Atari "ABC" series; as the article attests, they look pretty much like standard clones with Atari name stuck on. But I'm surprised they couldn't sell PC Clones as well as anybody. I guess the Atari name (the game association we've all suffered under for years as Atari computer users) hurts so bad, even on something that's EXACTLY like what your competitors are selling? The PCx (up to PC5) looked a lot cooler, and slightly less-generic. The PC5 would be a really nice retro PC to have.
Shredder11 #5 Posted April 28, 2011 I enjoyed the slideshow despite the inaccuracies, but hey....no matter who does an articles there is usually some human error!

I believe Toad computer and a few other Atari dealers sold some of the Atari clones but I agree with the article that they were more for Europe than the USA. Of course that's perfect Atari - In Europe where the ST has decent market share let's sell clones, in the USA where the ST is a niche computer let's not push clones.
